Thumbs up My new RP 3 Puck Clutch! (Pics)

Took my transmission apart today after having to get it towed to Ian's place last week. Draw your own conclusions. I know what happened.

    I think-

    1) the puck arm broke off and jammed itself and hence the resulting carnage-the material holding the puck on looks very very thin?

Where did you get the clutch again?

When you really look at that clutch disc, there isn't a whole lot of meat holding those four spokes to the center section, is there?

    Thats what I thought,

Funny thing is, I saw the clutch at my shop and never noticed how thin it was, then again, I was busy running around as usual.

I'd hate to see what would happen to a 400+ hp car the clutch is intended to be installed in...

Re: My new RP 3 Puck Clutch! (Pics)

After a close up inspection this is what was determined.

No foreign objects entered the transmission.
The pressure plate and flywheel were not damaged until after the clutch broke and only need resurfacing to be reused.
The rivets and material holding the pucks are strong enough and weren't the problem.
The clutch has some wear, but no signs of heat damage.
There is a hairline crack on one of the other ears for the pucks.

I'm not going to get a ceramic again. It was nice on the highway, but I don't want another one breaking under my 170hp after 3 weeks. There is noticeable wear on the flywheel and pressure plate, which leads me to think that these clutches will eat through them.

I guess I'm taking suggestions for a new one. Maybe Kevlar?

TIV disc wasn't good enough and slips if you gun it hard. If I do any upgrades it will be done, and I hate the soft feel.

Re: My new RP 3 Puck Clutch! (Pics)

Fortunatly, the case looks to have survived. I would not go with a 4 puck in that car either. I did not remember that you had installed that one. I had one just like that in my shadow when it was ICed with a HAH running 20+lbs. and it was just fine.

I would think that a T2/T3 clutch would do the job, but the VNTs do put out the torque a little sooner than the rest, so I might call chris and see if he can get you a clutch with a little stronger pressure plate and a T2 disk. Seems like that might be the ticket.

This clutch must be a cheap Taiwanese knock off,
