    Rampage subframe

Ive got a dodge rampage that I would like to restore. The frame rails are rusted pretty bad tho. Whats the best way to take care of the rust on the sub frame just below the firewall? Would it be best to cut the chunk out thats bad and weld some square tubing in place? Or I have a front clip from a charger that got rear ended. They have no rust where they usually do. Could I drill out all the spot welds and remove the entire sub frame and weld in the good one? Any input would be greatly appreciated

No rust front clip IMO. Im not a Huge fan of welded seams on frame rails. If you don't get very good penetration on the weld then you don't have a safe fix. You could use a spotweld cutter to drill out the whole shock tower/frame rail assembly;I would think that it would be easier to swap out the whole front engine basket with frame rails, but not quite as easy as buying another more solid car!

    and welcome to the forums!

Any one I find around here is rusted out.. so same problem. If I do find a good one, it has a running engine and everything and they want quite a bit of money. I have an 85 Shelby Charger converted to turbo 2 and I'd like to use the engine in my rampage. Itd be nice if I could find a solid shell. I have all the parts i need

Drill out the old rails and weld in the clean ones from the Charger.
Lots of work but it's worth it when you're done.

    Re: Rampage subframe

I found a guy thats willing to do the welding for me. He will weld in the new frame rails, do the floors, and clean up all the rust. He said he would even use rust killer, seam sealer, and undercoat everything. Everything for $1000 at the most. Is that a bad deal? He said it could be $500 to $700. But he didnt wanna quote me that then it end up being more. The way I see it, If i find another Rampage for a grand that isnt rusted out, whos to say it wont rust out in a couple years? What do you guys think?

    $1000 is a steal.
That's about 100 hours of work.

I agree. I would charge you more than 1000.

    Re: Rampage subframe

Is that worth it tho? For $1200 I can buy one that runs and drives. Spend $200 or so in cleaning up underneath and undercoat everything. Sorry, I can do anything on a car but I have no experience with frame or body work. So I'd rather cover every aspect before paying somebody that much money

If you can buy a clean one for less, buy it.
