Does anyone know off hand how much clearance the cylinder is supposed to have to the forged pistons? Past experience has been .003"-.005". I'm honing a .02 over 2.5L CB myself trying to get it done ASAP. Thanks.

I think my machinist set mine to .008.
I did a quick search and hit the ever reliable stealth316.com:
Piston Clearance Top of Skirt: 0.008-0.010 in. (0.2030-0.2540 mm)
Bottom of Skirt: 0.005-0.007 in. (0.1270-0.1778 mm)

I seem to remember, .007"

Talked to Cindy today, she was VERY helpful to me. She emailed me the venolia specs, they are .005"-.007" clearance from the bottom of the skirt. Still sounds like alot to me. Anyone have piston slap until the forgies warm up?
That is correct, they require a large gap as they expand alot when warm. Some have noise, others don't. The noise won't damage anything but some don't like it. I have JE's and they are a bit noisey when cold, big deal,Originally Posted by DBB mini

yea i have the venolias and i first fired the car up yesterday and it made a lot of noise til it was warm. after that it was all good though.

Mine sounds like a diesel untill it warms up. It's a small price to pay for strength.

Lol....my 2.2L NA Shadow sounds like a 500HP CAT diesel until it warms up. I read somewhere that synthetic oil will reduce or, in some cases, stop the "rod knock" entirely. My 2.5L had the BS in it, and no rod knock outside of a minor ticking when cold(kinda like a valve ticking).
OK.........
Oh yes. My wife refuses to drive it now. If quiet is your priority get Wiseco because they are an alloy that doesn't expand as much and can be set to tighter clearances. If you choose Venolia I'd set them on the tight side of the recommended clearance.Originally Posted by DBB mini
Your wife refuses to drive it ay? Not necessarily a bad thing. Already got the Venolias in & yes a tad bit of piston slap till it warms up.Originally Posted by John B
