Adam, I took the upper part of the power steering coupler and got a coupler from Borgeson with the correct spline count and put them together. Just like replacing a u-joint.
I currently have it in my car and it works like it was made to go in it.

Re: L-body manual rack and coupler

Thanks for the info mike. Thats the exact same thing i did on my spirit. Was just seeing if any had one to make my life easier. Do you no what the spline count is on a manual L-body rack. I still have the other half of the borgeson joint I took a part for the spirit. I think that was a 17 spline.

    I think it's a 9/16-16.

I actually just bought a manual L-Body rack. But, seeing as I don't actually have an L-Body, I don't know what I'm going to do with it. It was just too good a deal to pass up. I don't even have it in my hands yet, but if you want it, make me an offer. It doesn't have a coupler, though.

Pics of the one I have...

It's a 9/16 26 spline. It's the same spline as the manual rack I put in my Daytona. And, the same spline as the Pinto racks. So getting a u-joint from Borgesson should be no problem...

Re: L-body manual rack and coupler

I was looking at the flaming river unit.....oops. The omni manual rack is 9/16" x 17 spline. The manual rack I used in mine is the 17 spline unit. You may have to call them to get it. It wasn't in the catalog a couple years ago, so I called them and found out they make one in that size/spline. SO order the coupler with 2 of this size and you have 2 of them. That is if you go this route.
Rob, hopefully it is an actual L-body rack and not a large car rack that they listed as fitting an L-body. Either that or they used a different pinion shaft in yours.

Re: L-body manual rack and coupler

If it's a large car rack, then that's fine. I could use a spare anyway. The large car manual racks are even harder to find...

My rack measures about 23" from inner tie rod end to end.

Re: L-body manual rack and coupler

Yeah the manual rack thats in my spirit is 9/16"-17. I just found the other half of the borgesson joint i used on the spirit. So if I find a rack I should have the coupler covered.

Re: L-body manual rack and coupler

Was finally able to crawl under the Daytona to measure the rack...

The Daytona rack mounts are 13" bolt to bolt; on this rack, 13" from the bolts is into the boot on the other end. So, it's about 1" shorter than the Daytona rack - which seems to make it the right size for an L-Body.

Thanks for all your time and info Rob, but I think im going to hold out for a 17 spline rack since i have that size joint.

I have the manual rack out of an 84 omni. I should have the coupler also. Shoot me a PM/offer if you want it.
