Did anyone ever ask Mr Shelby.....

Why they built the Shelby Dakota with the 5.2 & not with a turbo 4 engine? My brothers Shelby Dak just had a engine fire & were thinking of tossing in a TIII engine & building it the way they should have..

Probably because it was the first factory v8 offering in a small truck as far as I know.

Sure would be cool to see a t3 Dakota.

That would be a very cool project. It was pretty cool to see a V8 in a small truck at the time though I'm sure.

Pretty sure they did it because it was the first V8 small truck, and being a "truck" and towing, a V8 made sense.

I'm pretty sure they never made the convertible in v8, only the Shelby trucks in 89 were V8

On that note, why not go with a 5.9?

I had an 87 Dakota with the 2.2 carb engine and 5 speed, if money was growing on tree's, I'd have put a TIII in there but had to sell it,

Re: Did anyone ever ask Mr Shelby.....

I think a TIII swap is the right choice... I like the idea of 25mpg & a easy 300 hp. I already battled a 93 dak with a built 360 with a 3000 stall , 3.90 gears. I was lucky to get 10 mpg with the 518od trans & driving in any mist or rain was useless. (I would have to sit & wait until it dried up some to even try to move... feather the gas,,spin, spin, spin etc... Ever tried pushing a rope ,But oh god would it run. (12.55 et) So I've been there...

Should be the same work for the R/T harness or van, I actually have a van SBEC harness too, that would make it even easier for you.

#1 this was Shelby's opportunity to do a V8 RWD vehicle again.
    #2 5.9 was scheduled for round 2 in 1990.
