    Burning chips question

Allo everyone, I've been looking at doing D-cal/chip burning lately. Anyway, my burner/chips arrived today and I understand almost everything to start burning chips (doing basically stock for awhile before I start playing in D-cal more heavily).

I bought some 27SF512 chips from Moates (direct replacement for AT29C256, which can replace the stock 27C256 chips, so I should be good in that department) - with my burner program I'm prompted for the chip addressing and buffer addressing. With the 512 chip where should I start/end the chip address? And is the buffer addressing the same? I think I'm looking at #s like 0000, 00FF or something like that? I'm not looking at doing two setups on one chip, just a plug and play factory setup.

    Thanks mucho in advance!

    Re: Burning chips question

I haven't tried doing a 512 chip yet, but I believe it's 8000 for a 32k cal to be in the correct spot on a 512 chip.. Because it's 6000 for an 8k cal on a 256 chip.. Now if you're putting a 16k cal onto it.. I think it might be A000, but hey, at least it's erasable if those numbers are wrong.. After you burn the chip, read the chip back, view the buffer, and see if the cal runs to the bottom of the buffer (should start way way down) If it stops before it gets near the bottom, then you didn't shift it far enough down the chip... Every 2000 is 8k farther down.. And when you cross 9000 you get the joy of base 16 hex.. So it goes 8000, 9000, A000, B000, C000 etc..

    Re: Burning chips question

Thanks for your help Una! I "think" I got it going now, when I load the calibration into the buffer it auto sets it to begin at 8000, and it is a 32k cal. The downside (not bad, just slightly annoying) is when I burn my chip, and the read it... my program automatically adjusts the buffer so all the info starts at the beginning.... so I can't look at it and tell if its been burned at the end of the chip. So if it doesn't work I'll have to trial and error it in the car... doh.

Now I need to find some tools so I can test this thing (left all my stuff and buddies last night)...

If you are burning a 16K cal on a 27SF512, the proper offeset is C000.
