Steering Rack & Pinion - 89 Shelby Dakota

Has anybody had to change their rack&pinion in a 1989 Shelby Dakota before? I started on this last night (my rack was shot) and am having one hell of a time trying to get the b*tch pin out of the steering knuckle. Even after I remove the pin, I'm not quite sure how it's going to be pulling the old rack out, with that extra cross member that Shelby welded in.

Anybody with experience with this job? Help.

Got it. Had to lift the engine up about 2 inches and then was able to pull the rack out.

Re: Steering Rack & Pinion - 89 Shelby Dakota

What I did on my V6 truck was pull the bolt that holds the two halves of the steering shaft together and then pull the pin after I got the old rack out. From looking in the engine bay of a Shelby truck though, it looks like I have tons of room in comparison.
