    Toyo RA-1 work for drag?

I can get a set of used 225 50 15 RA-1s of my friends racing Beemer, would they work as a drag tire on my S.C? I dont have slicks, would they be much better than my 205 50 15 Dunlop SP Sport R2? (best 60' was 2.111) I figured the taller tire would give me a little more top speed, dont wanna shift outa 4th...

I've never tried a road racing tire, only autocross tires. I didn't go any faster. The autocross tires made cool squealing noises though.

A roadracing tire isn't going to be as soft as a drag radial or slick. Nor is the sidewall flexible enough.

You can tried and see of the taller tire will help you. Just don't expect the tire to get you sub 2.0 60ft times

The Ra-1 should not be any taller then the dunlops. They both are a 50 series tire. The RA-1's are wider though. by about 20mm. The first number is width second number is profile on a tire. There will be a very slight diffrence in hight though, because the profile is a percentage or the aspect ratio: the percentage the distance from the rim to the tread. (section height-to-width ratio)

With this in mind the 205/50's should be around 23.1" and the 225/50's should be around 23.9" I don't think that will be a real noticable diffrence.

    Hope this helps you out.

I screwed up on my first post. The Toyos are 225/55/15, at least I think they were. Typing to fast with one finger

225/55r15? That is one whackey size for sure. What would that have origionally come on? I can name off 405 vehicles which could have come with a 225/50r15, but not the 55.

I'll have to get in touch with my friend and find out for sure. Theyre off a BMW that is used in a Racing Driving School. I seen them on Monday, I'm quite sure they are 55s, they looked kinda tall too.
Here's a pic I found of the car, dont know how current the pic is, if those are the same tires...http://www.bmwccbc.org/gallery/view_...2004&id=2780_G

Looks like they came on some of the 325, and 318s. Yikes, I would hate to have to pick those things up, as it is pretty uncommon.
