squeezed a 16.75 at 80.69 mph out of the van tonight with a 2.357 60ft. I was ahead of an 80's z28 until the 330' mark. I surprised a lot of drivers off the line! Racing a van is a lot of fun; no one expects it.

Are you brake boosting to build boost off the line or launching with no boost?

I am launching at around 5 lbs of vaccum, flooring it when the light turns green. If I launch in boost the tires just spin.

And I guess I'm lucky, as when I do my burnout I spin both tires every time without going through the water pit.

Re: 89 Voyager 1/4 mile times are in!

With michelin defender front tires and an added grainger set at just over 10lbs, I ran a best of 16.43 at 80.31mph, with a 2.296 60ft. 1/8th mile was 10.37 at 65.51 mph.

Any idea why my mph didn't go up? I would think it would go up at least a little.

So you're saying you added less than 1psi? I would not be surprised that you gained ET but no MPH if you put an MBC on but didnt change the boost level.

Re: 89 Voyager 1/4 mile times are in!

Ran a best of 16.21 at 81.9 mph today with a 2.382 60ft on my old front tires. there was a large headwind and the temperature on the slip is 101 degrees. 13 psi with grainger, and 3" downpipe with cutout open maybe only 10% so it wouldn't creep. no knocking or detonation, and the air fuel ratio remained at 10:1. should put down some decent numbers on a good day and with good traction. The problem I have now is it shifts into third maybe 30 feet before the finish line.

I plan on removing the balance shafts, doing the oil pickup mod, removing the a/c belt, installing an intercooler, custom intake, 14psi, along with porting the wastegate on the turbo so it won't creep (along with porting the swingvalve and turbo itself); that way i can run the cutout wide open.

Any reason not to just put it in manual 2 once its in second to prevent that 2-3 upshift?

Its shifts at 5600rpm and i don't want to hold it in gear any longer. Already loses a bunch of power up top as it is.

Re: 89 Voyager 1/4 mile times are in!

I ran a 16.19 at 81.7 mph with a 2.291 60ft. 12 psi, cutout partially open as to not creep. I feel like the top end should be better. I have dropped nearly a second off my 1/4 mile time and yet my mph has remained pretty much the same. Any ideas? I'm thinking a leaking bov or knock sensor malfunction leading to retarded timing. I will try plugging the bov (and let off the throttle slowly), and then on another run unplug the knock sensor to see if either one leads to a big improvement.

I have also removed the balance shaft chain and enlarged the oil pickup opening to about twice its original size, along with changing to synthetic oil. I'm curious to see how much of a difference it makes. Also, having no balance shafts and polyurethane motor mounts makes the car vibrate... alot. It gives me a massage at stoplights.

I got a best of 16.004 at 13psi with the cutout fully closed this year. If it was open at all it would creep until cutout. Have yet to break into the 15's. This Christmas I will be doing a bunch of work including an intercooler, porting the mitsu turbo, intake, ported throttle body, bov, 14psi... and some other stuff. Hoping to skip the 15's completely. I'll keep you guys posted.

Sounds good. I would not worry about your MPH. To me, it seems like you have only added maybe 2 psi of boost on a basically stock setup, so 2mph gain on a vehicle with a big aerodynamic handicap does not seem totally out of the ordinary. I think the intercooler will get you some mph. Unfortunately, you will always be leaving something on the table by having to shift so high with a mitsu turbo and stock intake manifold on the motor.

2mph + almost .20 off your 60' takes a 16.9 down to 16.0. Seems about right to me.

Get a cal and run some slicks, the slicks will make a huge improvement. Your going to need to do some trans improvements if you plan on going faster.

I agree with the slicks. It will make racing the van incredibly easy and drop your ETs even more. If you CAN spin the tires, slicks will drop ET.. The big thing to me is they make it a lot harder to ruin an entire run with a bad launch.

Very true, if I come out badly, due to how much they grip, it takes awhile to build up rpm and boost.

It would be hard to mess up with a mitsu though.

Yeah right now he isnt leaving with any boost and he can probably launch at his max boost and not spin if he buys new 24.5" slicks.
