Arrow 89 Voyager 1/4 mile times are in!

Just ran my 89 Voyager for the first time at the drags. It is pretty much stock, just a 180 thermostat, a manual fan switch, and an extra trans cooler w/ filter.

Best of 4 runs: 16.9 at 80mph with a 2.474 60ft. a best 2.378 60ft on a different run, but I let off at the end. I managed to mess up some way or another on each of the 4 runs. I was also on crappy 5 year old tires in the front for burnout fun. It was shifting between 5500 and 5750 rpm.

Seems I am right where I should be . Time to modify!

Just improving your 60 ft would drop it into the mid 16's alone. Nice work.

Shift at 5200rpm instead. I bet you'll pick up a couple hundredths that way...

Nice times, I seem to recall my friends stripper van, the "mini-me" of mine, run around low 16's with a bit more boost and an 2.5" exhaust side dump.

Next step is a grainger valve to stop the boost from going to 5 psi after the 1st to 2nd shift, but I plan on keeping 10psi as the max boost for now. Then a 3" swingvalve/ downpipe with electic cutout. The intake is where it gets tricky, as I want the filter to be right below where the stock intake picks up its air, and both the battery and computer are in the way. This is the same for the intercooler piping. I would relocate the battery to the passenger side, but I have no room due to the a/c and the charcoal canister.

This is how I solved the issue, the original was a 3" system and I've used it with all my 8 valve setups and turbo's and now my TIII setup's. Its basically a bolt on system, used a Honda cold air system then make my own cold air box and voila. Battery is underneath the air box.

Went to portland raceway this time. best of 16.825 at 80.0 mph with a 10.728 1/8th mile and 2.368 60ft. I'll be glad when I get rid of the factory boost control for a grainger. And next time I'll consider putting on my nice tires.

It was a good 2 hour drive. Not many people were there racing though. I forgot the first time I raced was at Woodburn raceway in Oregon. I'm going to school up in Oregon.

You will need to loosen your 'kickdown cable' in order to give it a shot, then. There's an adjuster mechanism on the cable itself, bolted to the top-front of the trans case. It takes some fiddling to get it right, and be gentle with it so you dont break it.

just leave the kickdown cable alone, you're messing with a can of worms.

In the sense that it takes a whole lot of test drives to get it right.. sure?

yea I have adjusted the cable before. ended up setting it so the transmission lever flexes slightly under wot. The part throttle shifts are good. If I adjust it so its looser the part throttle shifts are mushy, which I do not like.

Gotcha. Then YES, in that case it would be a can of worms to get it set up 'perfect' because you'd be doing trial and error with the line pressure and governor which becomes a PITA in about 2 seconds.
