    Re: fuel sending unit ohms

I did mine last week, it was 88 ohms empty so I bought this VDO Vision gauge 301-107
    http://www.egauges.com/vdo_ind.asp?T...ion&PN=301-107

the gauge worked perfect, it even has an adjustment so you can dial in empty, did that, added 2 gallons of fuel and it went to 1/8th tank. The fuel sending unit came from Quantas and I
don't know if they followed the stock ohm range, I would hope they did.

I have just the resistor from the sender sitting here to try to figure this out myself. The resistor range is about 120ohms empty to ~5ohms full but it doesn't look like it can actually reach above ~90-100 empty like you said.

If you say the 301-107 works I will also be ordering one soon. I have exactly the same gauge set in my car that will soon go into the custom dash bezel my friend is making for me.

They threw me off with the "tube style sender only" comment on this gauge which almost made me go with the F*rd unit. If it can adjust the 301-107 to be correct empty that is PERFECT and much better than the F*rd version! Full isn't as important as empty.

^ I had the Ferd unit, it didn't work, 5/8 tank was empty, the next step would have been putting in a resister to make it work and I'm sure it would have, but the 301-107 was only $20 and cheap enough to try out. That price made me think its a closeout, so buy soon. I had enough gas in the tank to start but put it in gear it would conk out, adjusted the needle to E and that was it, works great. I think VDO was the equipement manufacture for Chrysler at the time for gauges.

    Cool,

I ordered it last night. I agree $20 is well worth it and adjusting the gauge is much cleaner than adding a trim pot to the sender line as would probably be required with the Ferd unit.

Thanks for being the guinea pig!
