Finding a decent gasket kit for rebuild

Looking for a gasket set that'll take care of ALL bottom endand most of the top end gaskets. Won't be using the head gasket and will go with a one-piece valve cover gasket.

Found this kit from DriveWire and I think it takes car of every gasket. I'm not 100% on that though.

From the looks of this picture is it missing anything?

Also, it's $60, and seems like a good price.

If anyone can chime in on the $99 Felpro Kit FWDP sells I'd like to hear it. Does that kit cover everything?

Heh, thinking those highest manufacturing standards are just the paper trail so they know which temp to fire if their customer gets a higher than specified in contract return percentage.... batch 27356 all falling apart? Yeah, Rosie the Riveter was on the rag that week.

... coz on the floor it will go like...

Supervisor: Why didn't you sign that big order off?
Production Op: 'coz it was out of tolerance, the tooling is all worn, not better than 1 in 20 comes out anywhere close.
Supervisor: Okay, I'll sign it then.
Production Op: and we'll get new dies?
Supervisor: nope, just bring the paperwork to me, they want this yesterday.

Just don't be overly impressed by ISO 9000, 9001, 9002 certification

I'm not even paying attention to that. I'm more questioning the "completeness" of the kit and whether or not it covers every gasket.

Are you working on an early or CB engine ? The answer to that question will make it alot easier to give suggestions on what/where to get it.

    I do...

Several of the gaskets in that kit would have never been used by chrysler, a tube of anerobic and a tube of RTV would replace ~half~ of the gaskets pictured.

'88 T2, non-CB. I think I'm going with the Felpro kit from FWDP unless anyone can suggest a cheaper (less than $99) kit.

I'm sure you could pick up all of the gaskets on rockauto.com for less than that.

    4105395 x3 cam-crank-aux seal
    4343903 x1 rear camshaft plug/cap
4343882 x1 one piece valve cover gasket
    4621939AB x1 rear crankshaft seal
5203778 x2 front & rear oil pan rubber end caps. Use RTV on the rails as per fsm directions
6032920 x1 oil pump pickup to oil pump O-ring.

For the intake manifold Felpro MS90947 is fine.
    Valve stem seals Felpro SS72522.

Honestly the only gasket I would get from the dealer is the valve cover gasket. It is/was made by a different vendor than federal mogul/felpro and seems to fit better vs the blue felpro permadry offering. And maybe the rear main seal. I dont have any experiance on using anything besides the oem seal so I cant comment on how well the aftermarket seals hold up

Re: Finding a decent gasket kit for rebuild

I wonder if it would be cheaper to piece together the necessary gaskets individually than to spend $100 on kit. Anyone have a list of necessary gaskets for the bottom end while I wait for my FSM's to arrive?

Re: Finding a decent gasket kit for rebuild

Aftermarket rear mains are fine. If your buying a head gasket seperately, it might be worthwhile to piece it out but then again, depending on how cheap the kit is, not to mention your working away then SHITT, forgot to order this gasket/seal,

    Front & rear crank seals
    Aux shaft seal
    oil pan end seals
    oil pickup O-ring
fuel pump blockoff gasket if so equipped.
    tube of rtv
    tube of anerobic

That is all there is to seal on the bottom end.

    Don't forget:
    Distributor O-ring
    Water pump O-ring and gasket
Blue Loc-Tite for flywheel bolts (since the flywheel will come off to do the rear main)
Permatex High-Temp sealant for oil filter check valve

Also, when you get the front/rear crank and auxillary shaft seals, they will likely come with paper gaskets for the housings. Discard those, and use Anerobic per the Service Manual.
