    Going racing this Saturday

I'll be going to Speed World this Saturday with my mini-van. I just installed a Super 60 turbo with a ceramic coated turbine housing, Turbos Unleashed ceramic coated header, two piece ceramic coated intake, and flex-fuel injectors. I'll be towing it to the track so I can bring tools, jack, jack stands, scan tool, flashlights, Ostrich, and computer incase anybody breaks anything or needs to adjust anything.

I will be there with the R/T to finally get some back to back numbers for the traction control. I still don't have my new computer so I will be limited to stock boost and fuel.

If you have a socketed SBEC or a spare that I can socket, I have an Ostrich we can use to tune a cal to your liking.

It's about and hour drive to get there for me but it's worth it. It's not as popular as Firebird so last week I was able to get in 15 runs with my '94 5.9 Dakota. I could have gotten more but I had to wait in between races to cool down because it was 95* out that night. I was also experimenting with different computers and fuel pressure so I had that down time too.

CANCELED! Friggin rain. This is why I moved to the desert. I'll be going next weekend with the van.

All loaded up, blue sky and three hours later the storm moved in.

Well in the meantime, what happened when you ran the dakota? What were the results of your fiddling with fuel pressures and all that? I still havent finished the 5.9 swap i started in like january.. lol

My best time in the Dakota was 15.2 in January when it was about 60* out. When I raced it two Saturdays ago with the 52mm throttle body and the kegger mod done I got 15.3 when it was 95* out. My average time was 15.6. That was with a 5.2 PCM and 60 psi fuel pressure. I tried a 5.9 PCM with stock fuel pressure and I lost .2 of a second with consecutive 15.8 times. When it cools off I'll race it again and hopefully beat my 15.2 time but it's so hard to get traction with street tires.

Try about 28 psi, in the front.... as much as you dare in the back.

Or next time you do a jaunt over to Cali, find a used tire place on the way in the higher country and pick up a pair of used snows cheap.

Wouldn't go too low on tire pressure in front though, sidewalls won't like it on the top end, but you don't really hold it long enough to really heat them up.

I ran 40 in the front and I think the lowest I went in the rear was 25.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the 5.2 computer and some fuel pressure tuning is probably a better bet than waiting it out for a 5.9 computer if it comes to that in my case. Although our truck is returnless so that adds an element of annoyance.

Too bad the 6lug dakota is such a goofy rare bolt pattern. If you had a 5lug dakota you could conceivably use the same set of dual bolt pattern wheels to run slicks on the dak, the van, the parent's wagon, and any other k-cars you might end up with.

The 5.2comp has more timing, I've heard that the fuel curve is the same too, just bigger injectors in the 5.9.

Time for early dak spindle swap and a 5x4.5 ford 9" swap.

since the RWDer is the odd one out, it wouldn't be too awful to run a bolt pattern adapter on it... like a bulky one you hack up from scrap when you're bored.

Obviously coming into this a bit late, But I thought you were building a SRT-4 motor for this? Anyways I am excited to see what you run with the bigger turbo and header.

You may have already mentioned these, but what A/R is your new turbo?, are you running slicks?, and What kind of boost are you going to run?

I converted my '94 returnless fuel system to the '92-'93 return system and built an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. It was the only way I could get more fuel pressure.

The injectors are the same between 5.2 and 5.9. If it was that easy I wouldn't have had to convert my fuel system to return. They add more fuel using the computer.

I was doing the SRT-4 swap but my Ostrich wouldn't work with my van. Since I was going to have to do SO much adjusting, I wasn't going to pull over and burn a chip every time I had to make a small adjustment so I lost interest. When I put on the TU cast header, 2 piece intake, and super 60 turbo the Ostrich problem went away. I can't explain it so don't ask, I'm just going to roll with it. So now that I know it works I can move forward with my SRT-4 build. I just have to put the transmission together.

The compressor or turbine A/R? The turbine is a .63 I forget what the compressor is. I'm not running slicks with the van because I don't have an LSD, just drag radials. I'm getting a boost spike so I have my two grainger valve set for one to spike to 15 and it settles at 12/13 and the other to spike to 17 and settle to 15.

Awesome, It sounds like it is similar to my setup. I want to swap my G-head for a Swirl and throw on the 2-Piece intake I just got for $50. I want to see the change on the intake, and make tuning easier with the swirl.
Also i have been the most consistent with my Drag radials, but i do have a phantom grip in my van.

Can't wait to see what you run! Makes me want to go and do some more tuning on my van.
