    Re: Going racing this Saturday

Well not THIS Saturday but September 22nd. Stefan (turboshelbys) will be in town that weekend, first time since moving to Texas, so we're going to try and hit the track. Rain is the only thing that'll stop us.

I'll be racing my mini-van for the first time with the new Super 60 turbo with ceramic coated turbine housing, ceramic coated 2 piece intake, and ceramic coated TU cast header. I want to know what it does before I drop in the '03 SRT-4 engine. My Dad will probably race his wagon.

I'll be towing my van because the transmission is on it's way out. I'll have tools, jacks, jack stands, and other stuff to work on cars if something breaks. If my van stays together and someone else breaks down and needs a tow, someone can drive my van and we can put the broke-down car on the dolly to get it out that night.

Anybody who doesn't have my number, PM me to get it, that way if you want to go and something happens I can call you to let you know it got canceled.

    Re: Going racing this Saturday

Update bump. Going racing tomorrow night. I'll be racing my van. Last race before I do the SRT-4 swap. Weather looks good so no rain-outs. There's an event going on but racing is open to everyone. The "everyone" racing starts at 8:00.

You going to run it just like it is or take a chance on bumping the boost a little?

    Re: Going racing this Saturday

Depends on how I do. My last time I ran 15.3 with a stock T-II Garret at about 17 lbs of boost. This time I've got a S60 with a modified TU cast header and a 2-piece ceramic coated intake that I haven't run before at about 15 lbs of boost. But I also have a slipping-into-3rd transmission with over 200K which got me on my SRT-4 build again. It was either build a new tranny for my 2.5 8v or move forward on the SRT-4 now that I know my Ostrich works with my van. I had to up my line pressure to keep the flaring into 3rd down. So as I approach the finnish line I need to let off the throttle a little to keep from hitting the rev limiter. I'll be taking my scan tool and laptop so I can do a little tuning to keep things together as I up the boost to make up for the slipping trans and letting off the throttle. It'll be an interesting night, good times or transmission carnage. We'll see.

I don't know. I swapped the stock T-II turbo for the S60, swapped the one-piece intake for the two-piece using the same throttle body, and swapped a ported stock exhaust manifold for a TU cast header that I had a 1/2" flange welded on to make getting a wrench on the lower nuts easier and the problem went away. It's been on there since I did the swap with not one problem. That's why I'm moving forward with my SRT-4 swap because I know it's not my van causing the problem.

    Re: Going racing this Saturday

If I boosted past 5 psi it would buck and eventually stall. A chip with the chip extender worked fine. Same cal, even a stock cal, and the Ostrich would act up.

15 seconds flat. Running over 20 lbs of boost. My gauge only reads to 20. Now it's time to start the SRT-4 swap.

Cool. So I'll predict if you run the same boost, 14.5 on the new engine,

Really? That's it? I'm thinking with a tight transmission and a DOHC 2.4 I ought to break into the 13's. At least that's my goal. When I do the swap I'm going to weld bosses for vacuum gauge nipples for after the turbo, before the intercooler, after the intercooler, and before the throttle body to test the efficiency of my intercooler. I'm running 2" pipe because that's what the Supra intercooler came with. If it becomes a cork I might have to upgrade that also.

I don't think you'll hit 13's with that turbo at 20 psi, and being this engine will breath alot better than your 8 valve, your going to need more mass so you might find your going to need more boost to go the same or faster than the 8 valve.

We have similar weight except yours is higher so more drag, even with my big turbo, I feel I could maybe drop a another 10th or so at 18 psi so maybe 13.6/7 was the most I think I could get without running race fuel.

    My thinking anyhow.
