    A-604 harsh downshift

I seem to have re-aquired my 2002 Neon from my 19 year old who had been driving it for past 1 1/2 years. After fixing the leaks and servicing the trans (refilled with ATF +4) due to it being completely void of fluid (thats another story), the trans seem to work fine except it really bangs when downshifting from 4-3 at say 60-70 km/h.

Google search says it may need a "relearn", but I can't really find a procedure as to how to, or does it need to go to the dealership for something like that.

Also any other thoughts what it could be.

Yep, needs a relearn. I do it with my scan tool but maybe disconnecting the battery for 5-10 mins will work.

Disconnect the battery and hold the two leads together for about 30 seconds. Then reattach and slowly drive it to let it go into all 4 gears. Do this a bunch of times and then make it "kick down" a few times at different speeds and it should be okay.

Or you can read up on it and see what they say for the cause and repair.

That is a very comprehensive list. Hopefully the quick learn will do the trick. The problem they describe in the link can't be an od clutch pack tight clearance issue.
