    half shaft upgrade

What is the part number for the bigger u-joint upgrade in the half shaft, and is it solid?

I thought there was only one U-joint. I have a Car Quest P/N and it has the grease fitting in the cap which I was told is stronger than when the grease fitting is in the body. The P/N is UJ 1-6300.

+1.. depends on the power level. Spicer makes a beefy u-joint for our equal lengths but at some point the yoke itself become the weak pount and unequal lengths work better

    Says who?

Part numbers, stay away from the greaseable one.

You shouldn't be breaking anything at your power level.

Perhaps. That was just a picture I remember seeing more recently. I know I have seen the pictures of the forks where they were tweaked and the U-joint was still ok.

Broke one u-joint in 9 years, replaced it with an HD unit, haven't looked back,

Also done a back to back and I prefer the equal length setup, torque steer is greatly reduced.

I always go unequal now. I never broke a U joint, but I have snapped a total of 3 I shafts. One at the yoke and two on the actual tube (driveshaft) part. Sheared them both between the U joint and the bearing.

Once, maybe it was a freak or was damaged. Two told me that I had identified a weak point.

Agreed on the unequal. I always run unequal. I have ran into sheering of the splines in the ishaft. After that have always run unequal.

Add the potential of stripping them out where the axle rides and there just isn't a reason to run them IMO. I've also heard more than a few horror stories about windowed blocks and destroyed transmissions when they go.

I haven't noticed an advantage in regard to torque steer either.

    Re: half shaft upgrade

I went to the store and bought an unequal length axle today, I installed it and did a couple of launches, there was no torque steer at all. I will test it for real at woodburn dragstrip this weekend. I also sent the driveshaft shop an e-mail asking about custom axles.

Hard to see in this pic but the ring on the yoke snapped. 50/50 whether the yoke or u-joint went first

Driveshaft shop already makes axles for our cars.

You really don't need them, especially at your power level,

Only reason I would consider unequil length is for weight. I need to see how much I would save. + it's reciprocating............

    Re: half shaft upgrade

I've already spent $400 plus on "stock" axles. I am half way to buying something that won't break again. There easily in my budget. When you do upgrades you should invest in other future improvements.
