Can't open cal in MPTune

When I try to load a .tpl file in MPTune after a clean install it opens just fine. But after that, it's all off. If I try to open the same cal again or any other cal (.tpl file) it gives this error. What am I doing wrong?

Running windows 7. I don't have com port set up because my burner is usb. does that matter? I am brand new to this tuning thing so forgive me if these questions are dumb but I have looked and can't find the answer.

Once I can open them reliably, my next step is figuring out how to export my changes as an updated .bin file. . . but that's for another day.

I would delete that version of MP Tune and reload the new version. He has made some recent changes to it. You MUST delete it all, using the control panel.
