    Trip Odometer stopped working

I guess the mojo left mine tonight and someone elses started working again...

Problem: trip odometer has gone crazy, went from 130 miles to ultimately reading 995 over the course of a few minutes interesting fact: the tenths of a mile rolling digit still works....

Regular odometer (knocks on wood) is still reading just fine for now. Have the famouse little gears that go bust decided to check out on me ? I started pulling apart a spare cluster to see about swapping the assembly but I see it is quite involved with lots of little parts never made to be taken apart and I stopped before (hopefully) having not messed something up... I'm interested in what's going on here too, I've got a functional speedo and odo, but the trip odo no worky... Would be great if it can be fixed rather than replaced...

Just for $h!ts I pushed the reset button, its function has been restored but we'll see once it gets to around the 130 mark... I suspect it will do the same thing again but who knows.

Someone also mentioned that when you reset odometer that maybe car should be stopped.
I had a member ( Eurodaytona ) fix my odometer because it look very involved with small parts.

Yes. I have heard that explanation going back several years now. I can say for honesty that I have personally never reset the odometer when moving because of that, but the car was driven for its first 200k by others who may have not been aware of that potential shortcoming.

    Re: Trip Odometer stopped working

I have the same problem with my 88 Daytona. I bought it with the both odometers not working. My friend had a spare and we swapped them out and everything worked fine. 20 miles later I reset the trip odometer and it went to 00 and the last number was between 0 and 1. Now neither odometers work. It's weird it happened twice. Is there something I should take a look at? BTW the same day the odometer stopped working is the same day I had my AC recharged and found out the condenser has a leak in it.
