Code 41 after external voltage regulator install

After conversion to external voltage regulator, is Code 41 unavoidable?

Battery voltage with car running is 14.6volts, which is at the high end of acceptable range, but within range. Voltage at alternator is slightly higher, around 14.8.

In attempting not to burn myself I read .3 volts across the field terminals. That seems low, but I don't have much confidence in the measurement due to proximity of hot radiator and no gloves...

If charging is in range at the battery, is the Code 41 just thrown because the SMEC no longer has voltage control?

I have another code for bad ASD relay now, but car runs fine. Don't know if that is related. I tugged on all fusible links and everything seems to be good there.

Looks like you're stuck with it, unless you can find a dummy load to put across it..

I dunno how it faults the ASD, but I'm getting a thought that if it sees alt volts for half a second before it chops power or the first second when cranking or something, then maybe it thinks it's stuck.

If the ASD code is coming up, that's a seperate issue.

If you have a chipped SMEC, pretty sure you can turn that off in the code, otherwise your stuck with it.
