30R9 fuel injection hose doesn't belong inside the fuel tank!

30R9 fuel injection hose is commonly sold at Autozone, O'Reilly, Pepboys or any other auto parts store. They are NOT to be used inside the gas tank. 30R9's outer lining will literally melt inside your tank. You'll get low or no pressure at the rail, even though you could hear the pump running, this can happen in less than a week.

You'd want 30R10 submersible fuel hose, you can buy it from Napa or Carquest. It is not cheap, but you'd probably not want to do the same job twice.

Buy some fuel hose clamps also, worm clamps can easily destroy a hose.

Below is what happen if you use the wrong fuel hose and clamps, which caused no start, which cause the car to sit for over 4 years, while slowly killed the fuel pump in the process.

I think it even says that on the hose now as they've had too much trouble with that.

The insulation they use on the wire for some of those pumps is not fuel rated either.

That only sat for 4 years? Was it underwater, lol.

I just got a car running that sat for 10 years, still ran on the fuel in the tank,

Re: 30R9 fuel injection hose doesn't belong inside the fuel tank!

I had the same thing happen with my Omni after sitting for a year or so, when we finally got to the point we were going to fire it up, she wouldn't go! Spent all kinds of time trouble shooting all the usual suspects, but to no avail. When we finally decided it must be the pump and drained and pulled the sending unit/pump assembly, we found the fuel hose melted! Well, the outside was, the inner lining was still intact, but the outer layer melted and let the clamps loose their grip and POP, off goes the hose!

I blame the fuel here in CA, it's got plenty of Alky in it as well as other stuff to make it less efficient, but "better for the environment"... Personally, I'm getting tired of taking a backseat to "the environment"!

Re: 30R9 fuel injection hose doesn't belong inside the fuel tank!

found this on the site where I get my walbro's from. Haven't had one fail on me yet.

"We just learned that the high-pressure, in-tank hose that Walbro uses in all their kits, and that we sell individually, is not SAE J30R10 certified. It is rated for high-pressure, in-tank use, but is only made to a certain Chrysler Corp spec. We will continue to sell the hose we get from Walbro, but we'll now note it as not-quite-J30R10 hose."
