So Saturday I leave Fishers (NE of Indy) at noon and drive the 245 miles and 4 hours to Mountain Park Dragway at Clay City, KY in the Cheap Skate, a slightly modded 95 neon SOHC that can get 46 mpg at 55 mph. At 1:55 am SUNDAY I win my final round. By 2:05 am I had closed the exhaust, removed the magnetic backed decals, got my money, and put the jack/spare/tools back in it...started driving home. I stopped for a 1/2 hour nap, then pulled into my driveway at 5:50 am. Three hours later I got up, drove to Indy, and lost first round, mercifully! The link below is an album from that race. The first picture shown shows me in the staging lanes in the final round checking the Air Density Altitude so I know what to dial. On page 7 the top left photo is the guy that I beat first round...he ran a 11.600 on a 11.60 while I ran a 16.27 on a 16.26 and beat him on a hole shot. The photo on the top middle of that same page shows the Mustang that I beat in the final. On page 4...the NICE 64 Vette that is in the photo below the Cheap Skate was put out by me in the second round. On the first race of the year he beat me by only .0027! I am the only guy that drives his cars to the track, even though the name of our class is Street Stick. Last year I finished 3rd in points while that blue/gray Plymouth Scamp was runner-up. The guy that was points champ now runs in the Quick Stick class....the black fox body Mustang that has silver flames painted on it. The year before last I was second while winning the Stick Shift Nationals in the Cheap Skate when it was borrowed from my mechanic. I bought it in March of 2011 and made money in 8 of the 12 points races that year.
