    Just want some thoughts

Got everything together and the boost if nuts. I think I know what it is. I believe my adj. WG arm is too loose.

The boost spikes to 20psi, falls down to 13psi, and then settles at 15psi.

I got a video but for some reason this site wont let me host an 11 second video. Frank??

sounds like the wastegate isnt adjusted properly... i had a problem when i was only runnin 10 lbs, boost controller was all the way out, and it would spike at 14.5 and then drop to 10 then go up to 12... changed the gate arm and kaboom 14.5 and i blow up my motor

If the arm is too loose, I doubt it would spike to 20PSI. Do you have a restircter in the line at all?

No sir. It's the same setup I had before. Didn't change a thing in the boost controller dept. except for the adj. arm.

I'll take everything out of the MBC and lines and clean it, I may find my problem there.

Found some crud in the MBC but the lines were clean and had no tears or holes in them.

I'll try and fiddle with the arm.

Aha! Okay here's the evidence of the crazy issue.

http://media.putfile.com/Boost-issues I start in 2nd gear then shift to 3rd so yeh know. 413 auto.

To be honest, it baffles me why it repetatively spikes. I hope it's not a bad puck sticking in the swingvalve.... that just might suck.

    Re: Just want some thoughts

That would be boost creep. You need to pre load that wastegate alot harder.

    Re: Just want some thoughts

Typically preloading a wastegate requires vice grips to really push that thing over the swingvalve arm.

    Re: Just want some thoughts

Wait, maybe I'm not following you here. I just need to make the arm shorter right? I'm gonna try a 1/4" first and see how that works. To get it onto the swingvalve I use an air hose and zip tie the button down and it holds pressure in the WG can.

    Re: Just want some thoughts

Pre loading means to either shim the wastegate away from the compressor using washers OR to use and adjustable arm to make it really tight. This is because that exhaust gas is pushing the puck open and causing the boost to fall off.

    Re: Just want some thoughts

Okay I turned the WG arm I think 4 full turns, and it still spikes and creeps. But! Not as bad. The spike is far less and it creeps not as high. So I am heading in the right direction I suppose. I'll fiddle with it more tonight when it cools off.

Joel............. it's fast. Very fast. When the boost spikes to 20psi it's like nothing I've ever drove before. I cannot wait to get it under control. Even at 15psi it's faster than it's ever been. Also, surprisingly the turbo spools up much quicker than the half-assed hybrid did. It hits 15psi by 4,200 RPMs.

    Re: Just want some thoughts

Fixed it! Well for the most part. It does it a tad in 2nd gear, and it still does it in 3rd. But nowhere near as much. I must've turned the arm over 10 full times. lol I'll shorten it some more tomorrow morning and see what happens.

I got it down to 15 minutes to adjust now. Gettin' good...

Good deal! So when will this new setup be going to the track?

(how is the Dodge Charger ever going to keep up now?) lol

Joel... never. lol Everybody "thinks" my torque converter is trashed, but I think the problem is elsewhere. I can only build 3psi off the line.

BTW the Charger hasn't kept up since I added the +20's and upped the boost 2 months ago.

    Re: Just want some thoughts

Dont expect the spiking to get much better then it is now.... well unless you upgrade to TU's 3" swingvalve. The larger puck helps alot.

Describe your launching technique. When you are sitting on the line, what is the max RPM you can achieve and what boost. When you release the brake and finish mashing the gas, what happens then?

    Re: Just want some thoughts

Sorry to rain on everybody's parade... but everything is fixed.

I can build full boost now when brake torquing. But to be honest, it takes forever! I can hit 18psi (MBC set at 20psi) right at 10 seconds. I tell you what though, the burnouts are AWESOME! I'll get a video of one today. I did notice I wasn't able to build boost before with the arm being so long, but since shortening it I now can.

I'm going to try and shorten the arm a little bit more so the boost quits falling off and picking back up. We'll see.

Thanks for all your help guys! I appreciate it.
    -Bryan
