    cv axle rubber damper question

The boot is ripped on my 88 aries on the drivers side. I have another cv laying around but it looks like it never had the rubber balance thing on the shaft. The one on the car does. Did some come without the damper? Going on a trip soon but would like to avoid having to buy a reman or new. Thanks
