Like the title says, I'm looking for the part number for an '88 tbi cam. I have a couple laying around the garage and I'm trying to figure out which one is which.

Unless I'm sorely mistaken you can't tell them apart without putting them on a cam doctor or using a degree wheel while it's in a head.
What he said, Dodge in its brilliant design, didn't put any kind of part number or markings on them except turbo cams are stamped turbo on the drivers end of the cam.

Seriously?? I figured the numbers on it meant would say something... What year did dodge change from round to square tooth cam pulleys?
Thanks. That answered it. I robbed cams from an '88 Daytona and a '90 Horizon. Would have been less confusing if I had just gotten the floor pans out of the horizon instead of the cam. Haha
Is it worth the trouble to change from a t2 cam to the tbi? I'm running a stock t2 with 52mm throttle body and a 50 trim turbonetics.

IIR, there were like 3 different "88 TBI cams" (2.2L/2.5L/round tooth, square tooth...) and only one was supposed to be the "hot ticket" ... The 8V cam archive in the KC lists the differences. The one to supposedly get is the one with less overlap.
With that said, I have yet to see a TBI cam outperform the stock turbo cam in the saem setup... or a good B2B test with a stock Turbo cam to the good 88 TBI cam. This is part because to work correctly the 88 TBI cam needs to be centerlined with adjustable cam sprocket when installed

JT, I know Gary D mentioned something about changing cams
at the track somewhere on his site
I have to look again
Good info in this thread
I have a TBI cam out of an 88 parts car
I think I'll stick to the turbo roller cam already installed
in the head
Sounds vaguely familiar... was that where he said the 89 turbo roller was the hot ticket for stock cams?

Shadow loves the 88 tbi cam of course,
Gary said that all the other cams made less power above 20 psi over the stock turbo roller, IE stock cams, not aftermarket.

IMHO it is not worth swapping cams. A good tune will do more for you than a cam swap. I have used a FM 475 cam and a FWD-P F3 cam in stock heads and saw no noticeable difference. Can't see where swapping a turbo for an tbi cam is gonna do much. Not to mention the cam timing issues you get into if you have square tooth gears.

What about a mild port over full race port?
Or mild port and +1 valves?

cam swap is only as good as the calibration its running on.....
i have no doubt in my mind one could drop a FWD F4 or taft S3 cam into a stock head and still manage to pick up 10-15whp
