    Re: 85 glh

What's surprising to me is how many still think slicks break parts more than anything else.

Everyone cringes at the thought of running slicks, which is the exact opposite of me cringing at ppl running D/R's and wheel hopping out of the hole.

When Nick took his Daytona to the strip I brought a set of 24" slicks just in case, although there was no intention to use them.

He couldn't find a "sweet spot" where the D/R's would spin into a hook smoothly, always launch/spin/hook/ wheel hop. (don't let off and wheel hop got violent)

This went on for 2 or 3 runs till he broke an axle. (albeit the axle was already compromised by evidence of rust in break)

This made my decision simple, nothing to loose bolting on the slicks now!

So with slicks on and 12psi he now launched at 5000rpm and spun into traction every time. No wheel hop at all. Took his first 14 sec run down to a 12.6 @ 109 and he's just learning to drive down the track.

Don't get me wrong, IF you don't know how to use slicks and are trying to Dead hook them, I'm sure you can still break $hit, but if used properly slicks will break Less parts than regular radials and D/R's. AFAICT

Having said that, IF you Are done, really glad you got to see what it takes to make 300+WHP on this platform. I Could say you did a lot more than needed but that's irrelevant vs the learning curve that any given individual does/ doesn't need to go through.

Always better to see someone work things out, and enjoy some success, rather than give up having nothing but bad memories and frustration.

Wheels/Tires are borrowed from AJ. I've never been big about drag racing. One drag strip trip every 1.5 years been the average. My GLH is a street car with working a/c!

I have no doubt my engine/turbo/rest of the setup can make 400whp with 5-6 more PSI, a 4 bar map sensor, a set of 120/160 lbs injectors and retune. Heck, I'm still using a factory TBI 2.2L camshaft!

But I can't use all the power I've got now on the street! So getting 400whp would be purely for bragging rights and nothing else. There are other things I rather spend my money on and keep finding weak links is no fun.

Did you use another stock bracket? Modifications, etc?

Stock bracket, no mod, just rubber insert with poly pour all in the voids.

    Re: 85 glh

I entered the data into the excel version of the turbo calculator from the Dyno Graph and my MS log, it turned out the dip in the dyno is when my engine experienced surge.

This is a rough graph, but it shows enough to let me know I had a surge issue. I have since make my boost control more stable (less boost spike), and I did not experience surge at the drag strip.

Guess I'll be going back to 50 trim if I need to replace the turbo.

I was bored so I plotted my 353whp dyno on some turbo graphs.

V trim, my current turbo, so very close to the surge line, but it doesn't surge.

Good work Harry. Thanks for posting it up.

"The sole condition which is required in order to succeed in centralizing the supreme power in a democratic community, is to love equality, or to get men to believe you love it. Thus the science of despotism, which was once so complex is simplified, and reduced . . . . to a single principle."
    -- Alexis de Tocqueville

"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."
    --Ayn Rand

"To evolve, you don't need a Constitution. All you need is a legislature and a ballot box . . . . things will evolve as much as you want. All of these changes can come about democratically; you don't need a Constitution to do that and it's not the function of a Constitution to do that."

Move the air intake temp sensor from intake manifold to the intercooler piping to help to heatsoak restarts in 2019.

Late last year, the T3 gasket failed and shot exhaust gas upward and melted the connector.

Ditched the T3 gasket, and redid the tape.

I built a heat shield but ran out of my insulation tape.

Since I'm not going to be using launch control/flat shift anymore, I took the clutch switch out and wire the SpareADC to sense a/c on/off so the Microsquirt can control raise idle speed when a/c is on.

    Re-wire the SpareADC2 to littleknockmeter.

I live in AZ, have working a/c, big aftermarket radiator and a big front mount intercooler.

Time to give this a try since I always wonder about it. If it doesn't work, waterpump is cheap.

Drove to work this morning at around 73F ambient, MS logs show no issue. 101F ambient is around this weekend, that's when the real test starts.
