    85 glh

This isn't much of a project thread as the car runs an drive. Just keeping up with the progress and improvement I made to it.

Carroll Shelby inspired car. GLH stands for Goes Like Hell.

Goal for this car is for it to be a nice comfortable daily driver with a/c and somewhat good gas mileage. Looks isn't an requirement. It weights 2500lbs with a driver, ran a best of 14.5 at 97mph at only 12 psi. The setup should be good for around 24 psi with pump gas. 2.5L with a T04E 50 trim and Cosworth .48 turbine housing. Positive boost pressure comes in around 1700rpm, spool faster than my 850 with a 15G!

Reason why the intercooler is in the front is due to I want to have a/c. There is just no space inside the engine compartment for an intercooler, with the a/c condenser. And yes, I got many questions regarding to what it is, and lots of stares.

Not going to paint the intercooler black, nor make grille for it. No point, paint on the rest of the car looks like crap anyways. Beside, the intercooler sticks too far out. Rare deals can always be seen on the Kroger Weekly Ad.

That car is making serious power to run 102 @ a 14.28
You'd be deep in the 13's with slicks, like really deep, I assume you're not running sticky tires with the 2.3 60'

Sweet. Looks like it Runs like my old setup. I ran 14.0@104 with the same turbo but a .63 exhaust housing.

Interesting turbo response and top end power from the turbine / exhaust combo. Am I reading the information correctly in stating going WOT at 2500 rpms, it takes until 4000 rpms to reach 20 psi?

Looks like that, doesn't it? I still have not driven on the street with 20psi. The dyno operator was the first to hit 20psi in my current setup.

I had a 2.5L setup in the same car, with full 14psi boost by 2600 RPM and I absolutely HATED it. http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/sh...l=1#post834608

Yes, massive torque peak happens around 2800-3000rpm, but the torque number fails very sharply, and peak hp happens somewhere in 3600-4000rpm range. Great for wheel spins and 0-40mph, but nothing when you downshift to 3rd and try to pass a car on the highway. The engine probably made 300 lb ft of torque, and 200hp, if that. Torque steer was horrible. I did manage a 14.2 at 102mph at like 20psi.

My new 2.2L setup is great, I already autocross with it. It doesn't feel under power at mid rpm and it will give you the power you need at upper rpm. Pulling away form a stop is great, it just get more power as you pick up speed vs wheel spin then nothing.

I love the new setup in my car.

It sounds like a pretty street able set up. Good to hear you like it.

Wow, thanks for all of that info. That turbo spools up pretty decently for a stg. III wheel and I bet you could cut it down some more with tuning.

That's about right for the Stage III wheel, my van with either the 8 valve or 16 valve is in full song around the 4K area with the same turbo. I didn't like the lag due to the auto and heavy van but it was still a fun combo when moving.

My stock-head/turbo 2.5 was like that, ran out of breath around 5k. It pulled hard till around 4500 though, I spent a LOT of time tweaking the cal. It did run 80mph in the 8th though in a 3300# race weight Lebaron... I had no trouble with it pulling around traffic either, I just short shifted and used the torque. On the interstate I really never even needed to drop out of 5th gear unless I really needed to move or was below 60mph and needed to pass someone quickly.

I do feel that a 2.2 is better for a light car, as it is more linear in power output. The 2.5 torque comes on violently around 2800rpm or so...

The Reliant ran quickest on the track when shifted at 5000 rpm with a 2.5, that is why I was "destroking" to a 2.2 engine for the next engine package..
