Parting out/whole 1985 Dodge 600ES convertible in IL

    Date: 25th April 2012
    Username: Dodge Aries K
    Full Name: Karl Bonfiglio
City, State, Zip: South Beloit, IL 61080
    Contact: 815-980-8960
Price: $900 for the whole car, make offers for parts

I recently picked up this 1985 Dodge 600ES turbo. It's a convertible, as apparent by my pictures. Car only has 85K on the clock and no asterisks or anything like that so it should be the original mileage. Unfortunately, it hasn't been well cared for and neglected so it's pretty rough. The floors have rusted out in the past and have been patched by someone in your typical areas. The top is horrible, and that's why it's here. A new top is over $1200 installed and just isn't worth it. Everything on the car works with the exception of the driver side 1/4 window regulator. It was originally black but someone spray panted it black again... I'm guessing the clearcoat failed. The sad part is it actually runs and drives really well! Newer tires on it as well. It has a newer head gasket on the engine but I'm sure it needs a tune up as it sat for over a year before I got it. It is, oddly enough, a non-a/c vehicle. Most of the exhaust and the cat is gone. Still have the factory twin tip muffler in okay shape here.

$900 whole. Make offers on parts. I'm on the fence of using the car to convert my clean 84 Aries wagon from crap 2.6 to this car's drivetrain but still have no idea how much hell I'm in for on that project.

Do you know if that car came from Waukegan IL at one point. I remember an old guy named Howard owning one like that back in the early 1990's.

I'm not really sure. I know it's had a few owners... I believe most of the owners were from wisconsin but I'll see if I can find anything in the car that might point to that area.

Gut the Aries wagon, swap in all the turbo motor.
    Then intercool it!

My Aries wagon is a two owner car from Florida with 64K on the clock, I can't gut it! Personally, if the Aries was just swapped to a TBI setup with a manual I'd be more than happy with it haha.

I had an 88 Reliant Wagon. Ordered it from the dealer with the 2.2 TBI and 5 speed. Wish I still had it. 40 MPG on the highway and 30 around town.

Bumping this back from the grave.

    A. Both interior door panels with the pulls, window switches, hardware etc. $ 20.00 per side

    B. The rear view mirror. $5.00

    C. Drivers side sill plate and rear piece of trim that continues. $10.00

    D. The spare tire/donut and jack. $ 15.00

    F. The passenger side wheel well. $ 10.00

    G. Lower dash trim marked fuse access. $ 5.00

    H. The center console with arm rest. $ 20.00

    I. The chrome trim on the top of the drivers door. $10.00

All the stuff listed above is gone. Guy is coming to buy the wheels off of it today too so I'll finally be making progress at getting it more dismantled.

I scrapped the top frame and the old exhaust. Threw out the rear seat and some of the random plastic bits. I should be getting the drivetrain out of the car soon enough so I can send it on it's way to the scrapyard so if you want anything let me know. Oh yeah, the instrument cluster is going to make it's way to eBay here soon enough so once I finally get to that I'll post a link to that.

Just a fyi hang on to the hood for the reliant wagon. Those are next to impossible to find and would be a good addition for your turbo swap on the wagon. Turbo vents. And sry for all the trouble you have exerienced. Keep your head up it will get better.

I would but it won't fit! The 81-84 Aries and Reliant the hood comes up all the way to the front. They don't technically have a header panel like the later ones and the 400/600/LeBaron

Is the cluster the style with the tach? How much are you asking for the cluster?

It certainly is the one with the tachometer! Only 85K or something like that too. It's in perfect shape with no burnt out segments so I'm wanting to get $100 for it otherwise I'll use it on one of my cars since it's freaking awesome compared to boring analog gauges.

It's hard to tell in the pictures, but does it have the factory stereo with the graphic EQ, and are you willing to pull the dash wiring harness?

Re: Parting out/whole 1985 Dodge 600ES convertible in IL

It has the Quartz Lock Precision Series unit which does NOT have the EQ. I have an EQ radio from a 1985 Voyager but it's in black but perfect. Dash harness, I don't see why not but that'll be a bit before i get to any of that stuff. I don't think I'll need the dash harness to go from TBI to turbo on my 86 Reliant so that shoudn't be an issue.

Re: Parting out/whole 1985 Dodge 600ES convertible in IL

How much are you asking for the black faced radio with the EQ? If your reliant is an 86, you would be better off using an 86-88 E class engine harness. 85 still uses the 50 pin bulkhead connector. The 86-88 style uses a 60 pin connector and the honestly the 87 logic module or 88 SMEC have much better options for calibrations.

If your interested I have a complete 87 New Yorker engine harness and logic module in very nice condition that I would be willing to do some trading with you for the dash harness, stereo and digital cluster. Obviously some cash would have to be involved as well, as I don't expect you to work for free.

    Thanks,
