    2.4 timing belt

My wife has a 2006 Dodge Stratus 2.4 liter. I know the general timing belt rule is every 100,000 miles. What is Dodge's recommended service interval on the timing belt? What else does everybody recommend replacing while in there? Her car has 86,000 miles on it currently so I know I am getting close.

    Re: 2.4 timing belt

Mitchel has it down at 120,000 miles.

If your doing it yourself and maybe planning some big trips in the future, I'd do it around 100K, replace the seals and waterpump too.

You can buy a kit for around $130 that includes the belt, idler pulley, tensioner pulley and water pump.

It makes sense to change all those items when you have the front off. I have never changed the crank or cam seals but if they are showing any signs of leaking it makes a lot of sense to change those too.

120,000, wow, I figured it'd be before that. I'll probably do it at 100,000 then. It is not uncommon for us to drive this car to northern Michigan 1-2 times a year. That kit sounds like the way to go, Is that OEM or aftermarket parts?

I just looked up a timing belt on an '06 PT Cruiser 2.4 turbo for a customer and the severe service recommendation in 90 K.

id grab this kit. I had done all this general maintenance at this time when the timing belt was toast. I wish I had a picture of the belt, but it was only a 1/2" thick and extremely loose....
i never did replace the tensioner as it costed more then the list price of the kit mentioned here. gotta love canadian inflation prices when the dollar is equal.......

The kit I mentioned is available from RockAuto.

They have Gates in three grades; OE, Premium OE, and high performance. When I did mine last fall I got the high performance, the belt was blue.

Tighter, hotter engine bay plus its a turbo, even more heat.

    Re: 2.4 timing belt

i believe the factory owners manual says 90k if i remember correct..just did mine on my 06 stratus a few months ago..not too bad if you are confident in your mechicanical skills..just need a puller for the balancer.

    Re: 2.4 timing belt

I did the timing belt on my 99 Stratus 2.4, it wasn't bad, I have the puller for it so that does help a lot. It's starting to look like we may get a mini van to replace the 06 Stratus before it reaches 90k, so it probably won't get done...
