Finally bought a new performace trans for the mini!

I finally realized that I don't have the time I used to to build and work on my projects. I bit the bullett and ordered a new Street n' Strip a413 for the mini. You may remember, I broke the trans and it has been sitting while I "gather" parts to rebuild. I decided something needed to be done, so I did it. Hopefully, the mini will be back up and running within the next three weeks.
I ordered the trans with a Peloquin LSD and MVB, along with the line pressure mod and the drain plug. I bought a Hughes converter for it, too, wanting everything new and nice. I am really excited. I have long-thought that my stock transmissions (this is the third stock trans that I have managed to break) were not adequately transmitting the power to the ground. I will soon find out if my theory is correct. Also, with the LSD I am hoping to cut my 60' down dramatically.
While tearing it apart I found that my silicon 90* elbow at the turbo was split as well which explains why I could only get 19 psi of boost right before the trans went.....that was ordered too.
Anyway, I'm just excited and looking forward to terrorizing the streets again!

Well yeah, if your previous trans have truly been stock, remove false teeth before test driving. Will probably bark tires going into 2nd and depending on motor power and relative grip might bark into 3rd too.

I bought it from Turbos Unleashed. The converter is being drop-shipped from Hughes and should be here any time. I have to send a core back on Monday, but Chris said two weeks after he gets it. I am stoked! I can finally get back to the track again!

I hired a turbo Dodge guy to run my CNC's at the shop, too. He is stoked to drive it............Who'da thought it; my turbo-mopar connection brought me the best CNC guy money could buy!

Re: Finally bought a new performace trans for the mini!

It is in and it is a BADASS! I have never felt this van like I am feeling it now. I have also never felt a true 2800-3000 stall in the van until now. I still have a weak low-end (from idle to when it tips into boost), but then it rips. I attribute some of the lag with the larger turbine housing/larger compressor I put on it (I am now running a .63 A/R turbine housing with no stage on the turbine and a .50 trim on the compressor side). One thing that I noticed is that the Hughes converter does not have a timing mark on it. What I did was to indicate the top of the piston at TDC on #1, then scribed a mark on the converter in the red paint at the "0" on the trans. indicator window. I am running at about 14*~15* of timing from what I can tell and I have not had any knock (that I know of) yet. I have a Snow's progressive methanol injection kit on it, so that is what I am using as insurance for knock.
I need to buy a scanner to look at knock that the ECU recognizes. Also, I am running one of Rob's cals, so I can probably find out if he enabled the CEL to flash in instances that the ECU sees knock. I'd like to know if there is a better way to look at knock. I know a couple of my freinds use some type of aftermarket knock detection on their Grand National.
I am getting some dyno time for the mini so that I can find out what I can change to make the best numbers. Now that I have a trans that can handle it, I may put the nitrous back on it.
Do you think that the turbo that I am running is too big for the street? That is the indication that I am getting......dunno. It is sort of a moot point in that I am now building a 16v engine for the mini anyway, but would like to get as much out of the 8v while building it.
    Thoughts?

    Is it a T3/T4?

Yeah, they use Neon converter housings and they don't have timing marks, so you need to add them before you install it.

Why did you go with a low stall?

I drive it on the street (dd) and was worried about trans. temp after a long stint in traffic. The van can rip the tires off now; something I had to TRY to do before.
    Yes, it is a T3/T4.

Re: Finally bought a new performace trans for the mini!

A good trans cooler will solve that issue. My cooler sucks and I hit 250+ at the track and stop and go traffic but when I lock it up, the temp drops.

Stage 1 and a 50 trim is a weird mix but should work fine, good spool and should match the stall speed you got.

Too bad I am not using tranny fluid,

I change the fluid every 2 years or my trans, which ever happens first,
