Vw coil overs on a l body?

I have been lookin a bit and with my prior endevers with my old turbo diesel Vw rabbit I noticed that the stuff is very similar to the stuff on my l body now. Anyone tried fitting this stuff up?

This weekend my buddy is going to bring his coil overs over and were gonna see how everything looks and see what machining needs done. The main problem is the strut bearing size is to small and I silk need to figure that out. The rest is unsure at this moment.

Can you just drill the strut bearing to size? Got pics?

No pics yet. I'll have to get pics of my old setup and some mods i did also. I'm using Daytona knuckles on my l body struts now with some machining done to it. It's on my built thread

Re: Vw coil overs on a l body?

so my buddy brought his set of coilovers over and we started to fit them up. the rear is a bolt on. the rear swingarm mount of the shock is identical. the top portion seems to be the same also but i have to verify the length of the threaded portion to see that its the same. i overlooked this at the time but see no reason it wouldnt work.

the front struts are all but a bolt on. the front strut bearing falls into place on the shock tower. bolt patterns are the same. the portion where it bolts to the spindle will need a little modification. the bolts center to center are exactly the same. the spindle width will need machined down just like if your using a daytona spindle on an l body which i am so its no big deal. pics coming soon. any questions ask em

Yes the best part is that there are many good brands to chose from and the shock rod diameter is bigger and stronger also. I'm still trying to research if the mk2 is closer to the fully extended length of the stock charger stuff.

Are the konis the same overall length as stock? Anyone know?

I plan on seeing if the stock shocks and springs of the mk2 stuff work. They are supposed to be like an inch or so longer and wider where the strut bolts to the spindle. Going to go to the junkyard sometime and find some and see how they bolt up.

I thought this was common knowledge. A few of us searched for other ideas so we didn't help the nazi empire.

Unsure if it is common knowledge but I'm pretty sure ground control is made in the usa. If it is common knowledge then are they using mk1 or mk2 stuff?

What we fitted up was for a mk1 rabbit or Jetta but is about a inch or more shorter in overall length. So I'm looking into the mk 2 stuff to see if it will work better

The common knowledge part was VW stuff fits. What version, I thought the mk2 and mk4 fit. But it has been a while since I looked it up, so don't quote me.

Could have been common knowledge before my time. And I'll have to try mk2 as I'm pretty sure mk4 is different in the front but unsure.

Are konis have a few flaws and there are a lot of Coilover manufacturers that make good stuff even if it's labeled for a Vw. And camber plates are readily available to. So might as well try it hate the communist machine or not.

Let see them completely installed on the car before saying anything...
The front one look to be very short vs stockies, but then, looks like the coil is not touching the top plate.

    I am all ears too.

The rear was installed. And the front looks so much shorter due to the strut bearing not being installed. I'm waiting to find out if the mk2 stuff will work because im told it's a bit longer overall which means it would be about the same as stock and where it bolts to the spindle is a bit wider which would work better also. Might take a few weeks to get some shocks and struts off a mk2 cause im broke ---

Do they sell a front strut c/o assembly for the vw mkII stuff? All I see on their site is for a mkI chassis.
