Re: Looking for steering wheel fix

You need to take it apart and tighten up the internal bolts and apply loctite. We've had a few threads on it, its not for the faint of heart, its a very time consuming job and you need some special tools. I've done 100's and its still takes me 1.5 hours, first one took me something like 3-4 hours, lol,

You need a lock plate tool, harmonic balancer remover kit and the tilt pin remover tool.

is it the same story for a later column like my 92 column? when i put the new grant wheel on i noticed that its got a little play after for some reason, it almost feels like the adapter is loose but it isnt.

Re: Looking for steering wheel fix

Nope, later cars got a totally different steering column, this only fix applies to the Saginaw or GM steering column. Its possible the adapter isn't tight enough.

lookup 'saginaw column tilt loose' on google. There are probably 500 different sites with step by step directions on how to fix it. It is SUPER common and the parts stores with the rent a tool program will have all of the tools for fixing it.

I have found the later accustar columns can get a bit loose either from high mileage or someone weighing 500lbs using it as the entrance/egress support handle. There is no fix for them besides getting another one thats not loose. Tilt mechanism is nothing like the saginaw, no bolts to loosen up. The hinge mechanism get sloppy.

That would work but the chances of me finding a not wobbly black tilt column is gonna be killer! The whole design is different than my unoptioned car
