    Broken mounts

Has anyone ever seen the front engine mount break? My totally stock 86 Daytona turboz started making a noise while slowing down and I managed to trace it back to a broken engine mount on the front causing the crank pully to rub against the plastic splash cover??

yea that happens when the bolts that hold it to the tranny fall out or get very loose. Used to happen on my GLHT all the time until I finally got some factory bolts that kept them tight.

    Re: Broken mounts

Yep, I've done it. I had a guy weld a cracked one, but it was somehow too warped to ever go back in straight. Some of the turbo Daytonas even had extra bracing welded on there from the factory*. I might have one of those in the parts bin if you need one.

Either way, definately make sure the bolts are very clean and tight. I've had to put blue locktite on all my cars as they tend to vibrate loose quite often, which causes all kinds of other things to get worn out.

*I've thought about doing that to an L-body mount, buut I've never actually broken one from power, just loose bolts.

    Re: Broken mounts

When I pulled my mount to install a new one it was cracked, I welded it up and rewelded alot of the factory crappy welds. On my 600 the radiator support was BROKEN, all the welds were torn out from the motor rocking so bad, at least that is the only reason I could see it breaking the way it did.

the trans mount on my iroc r/t was bad and didnt know it til i hit a bump in a parking lot and heard a BANG! come to find out that was the rest of the mount ripping and dropping my cv axle onto the k frame..scared the crap out of me and cost a pretty penny to fix.

    Re: Broken mounts

I find the biggest reason why is people don't tighten it down in the correct sequence and it causes it to crack.
