Building a 12 second beast starts with...

    This!

24"x12"x3" intercooler. Finally ditched the stocker. After running a 13.72 on the stock T3 turbo and stock turbo I've upgraded to a true T3/T04E turbo, 2.5" SV, new O2 sensor, ported head and ported intake runners, and the FMIC.

So onto the fabrication so I have a link for the "Show off your FMICs" thread.

I went to Paul's Do It Yourself Center and purchased a thick piece of steel that measured 12" long and came with 6 holes punched already.

    Hung the intercooler on them...

I also have some 2.5" i/c piping with silicone couplers and T-bolt clamps that was for a turbo kit for a Tiburon. I drew what I thought it should look like and logged what I would need. So far it's workin' great!

The 2.5" piping fit a lot better than I thought it would. I wanted to keep the mess of piping out of the engine bay, so I brought it behind the intercooler, between the hood and radiator core support.

I also want to mention my thanks to my dad for all the help and parts that he's dedicated to my car. If not for him none of this would have been possible.

    -Bryan

PS: With the most respect to Gus, I hope to have his record soon for the fastest 8V A-body.

Nice. I have thought of supporting my intercooler the same way but I wasnt sure if it would work out.
My intercooler fit decently into the AA body (much better then my P body).

Brent, how did you hang your intercooler?

I'm thinking of mounting two more brackets at the top of the i/c that bolt to the hood support where the plastic use to have a push pin for. Just for reassurance.

Just an update of what I did today.

All the pipes are fabbed, I need someone with a tig welder to weld my BOV flange on.

    Anyways onto the pics:

Looks pretty good. Wise choice. You're going to have a tough time keeping that all together with boost!

Especially with out any hose clamps

You dont need the BOV flange TIGed on you can just get it MIGed and have it look just as good.
    Tig $ > Mig $ just my 1/50th of $1

Thanks for the compliments guys. Everything is dirty and messy as hell, sorry for that. I'll get some good pics of it cleaned up after everything is together.

Anyways, I'll look into getting the BOV flange mig welded at a pro. shop.

The catch can is from FWD Performance. If I remember right it was around $50. CC's are tricky to install. PM me if you ever do one.

Nice work. That looks much better than the install of an SRT4 IC in my shadow did. That should help you make some power for sure. I would actually say that it will have eliminated one of the biggest weak spots in your setup.

    Bwuahaha.

Well since I rounted my IC side to side (TB on passenger side) I didnt actually hang the intercooler on anything. Tbolt clamps and no brackets to hold up the IC. :P

Thanks. I think it'll be good for around 30hp, maybe 3 or 4/10. That stocker sucked.

Looks good Dave, you are one determined dude! lol
It is a shame that I/C didn't have inlet & outlet both on the driver's side to eliminate that long pipe! Is that pipe stainless or mild steel?
Now all you need is $100 worth of T-bolt clamps!
I can't wait to hear what she runs when all this is done.

Re: Building a 12 second beast stars with...

Jt - the pipes are in the shop now getting the ends flared. Those will be done this afternoon. The head, I'm picking up tonight. Everything will start going together tonight. Should have it running tomorrow.

    Mike, PM sent.

Joel, thanks for the compliments. I'm fine with the intercooler and the end tanks, I wanted to keep the piping out of the engine bay and it looks great being away from it all. It'll even cool it off a little more, being up front. BTW it's aluminum. That's all I know.

So everyone knows, I have 22 T-bolt clamps. I need 24. Damn. Oh well.

I am having trouble keeping 4 clamps on. Good luck with 24
Having the ends flared will definitely help. I am either going to get a bead
welded around the ends or use JB Weld to make a ridge like I was suggested.
