Thread: Exhaust Evac

    Crankcase Evac

I an exhaust evac on my car pretty recently before I melted a piston. After I put the new engine in, the wastegate housing was at a different angle than it was originally. I took the exhaust off to modify the angle and found my exhaust evac check valve to be malfunctioning; allowing flow both ways.

    Do these go bad often?
Is there a better, but still cost effective solution?

My turbo inlet does have an hose barb/fitting that is just capped off now, maybe I should use that instead?

    Re: Exhaust Evac

Mine has been working poorly, allowing a lot of moisture to collect in the valve cover baffles. Nasty crap. I want to install a separate one way check valve. I posted something about the valve in my Holset 3.0 thread. I sorta forgot about it but I need it. There is a good looking unit for like 20-40 dollars, I can't remember. Brass if my memory serves me.

My real concern with the exhaust check valves is that I don't really think they freakin work in the first place. I have two on my daily's downpipe and only use one. If I don't cap off the unused one, it makes nasty nasty sounds that are obviously leaks.... Idle is when the check valve leaks because there is not enough exhaust velocity to create a vacuum that is greater then the pressure being applied to the check valve. Obviously the only time you need the check valve is during idle and it doesn't work!

    Re: Exhaust Evac

I've been thinking about running an EVAC system like this. I was thinking about running a catch can. Run a hose from the valve cover to the catch can, and a hose from the catch can to the exhaust. SRT4 guys use a billet check valve for the valve cover breather hose, and they claim it works well, so my thought was to use that between the catch can and the valve cover, and then one of whatever check valves in the hose to the exhaust. If the exhaust check valve leaks, the one in line with the valve cover will take care of it, and the catch can may help with moisture.

what exactly is the check valve? Exhaust evac needs a lot of flow when you are in boost at high rpms.

These are the ones that SRT guys use inline for their PCV system to keep boost from pressurizing the crankcase. I would use one to keep the exhaust pressure from blowing back up to the engine.

    Re: Exhaust Evac

Kind of forgot about this thread. I used one of the check valves from Jegs, and I do have a supra PCV valve by the valve cover. I just don't think my exhaust evac setup is working all that well. Of course maybe my engine wasn't sealing all that great anyway and the blowby was a little too much to handle.

I've looked into getting one of those BMW pumps and using that as a vacuum pump.

I cannot find a pic of this check valve on that site (3.0 evac issues)
