Neon won't run faster than 25MPH!!!!!

Joy called this morning and stated that the Neon wouldn't move faster than 25MPH, but otherwise sounds fine. It gave the code P0134 which is the front O2 sensor. If it completely failed would it trip a limp mode or some such?

I'm trying to decide if I need to have Joy get it towed home or if she can get it home somehow. I don't get out of work until 6:30 tonight, but I'll try and check this often throughout the day.

Unplug the 02 sensor and see what happens. I have experienced 02 heater circuit failures in Neons that have done incredibly weird stuff. Unplugging the sensor may make it driveable until you can replace the sensor. No gaurentees, just personal experience and worth a try.

ive had way more problems with the heater ciruit wiring melting into the o2 signal wiring, if you have a scanner that does live pid data, check to make sure its doing something before just replacing the sensor...

O2 code can mean practically anything, injector leak, bad coil, bad plugs, bad wires, pump problem, manifold leak, bad headgasket, squirrel chewed the wiring... ... ...

Cupfull of mineral spirits, ATF and 99% isopropyl alcohol in half a tank or more of gas, and you've got a 80:20 shot of cleaning out the fuel system, unsticking injectors, cleaning the O2 up if it got marginal, and putting the pump on another month if it got weak.

How bad does the 20% chance 'F' things up?

Oh it doesn't, that's just the "it wasn't enough" or "wasn't that" meaning the injectors or whatever were so clagged it either needs you to run that mix a month and cross your fingers or break down and get them professionally cleaned. I guess there is the outside possibility that if you have a REALLY clagged up tank, then it will block up your fuel filter, but that might have been coming anyway if you up and one day put brand name gas in it, or a higher ethanol blend.

Thanks for all of the ideas guys. I think it ended up being a stuck kick down lever. It was fine when she drove it home and she said that this morning it would rev as high as she wanted, but it wouldn't get out of the lower gear.

Heh, I'd have suggested that for a TM 3 speed, but I couldn't remember how they were on Neons, plus knowing it was revving all the way woulda been useful

Tell me about it. I showed her where the kick down is and told her how it works as I lubed it tonight. Hopefully she'll be able to diagnose and fix it on her own next time.

I'm getting to the point that I can't complain too much about her. She's better around a car than most regular men I know these days.

I don't know how many RPM or the exact MPH. She stated that the RPMs were rising in a linear fashion with MPH, but it would not shift to the next gear.
