snap ring pliers, slide hammer or something to remove the pump housing. You'll need a press to take apart the OD section (big spring inside) and the rear clutch pack. The rest is just basic hand tools.
if doing all the bushings the factory pressing/removing tool is nice but I've seen it done with a punch and hammer carefully.

Do you need some kind of adapter for the press? I recall there being a special tool for that. Hmm. I think I have the service manual.

A bushing driver set is not that expensive and will save you untold frustration over trying to do bushings with a punch. Honestly, i wouldnt even consider trying that method.

I think you can use a giant socket as an adapter when compressing the return spring in the OD section (my memories of doing this dozens of times seem to be completely missing). One thing i've mentioned before that you will probably need is a 'dummy shaft' for putting together the od section. Basically it's the shaft that goes into OD section (the output shaft of the 3spd part of the case, basically), but cut off so it goes into the OD section and only leaves maybe an inch sticking out (and will fit under that big socket?). The shaft keeps everything aligned while you are using the press. If you dont use the dummy shaft, some stuff may be misaligned and when you try to slide it onto the rest of the trans it will not go on, and you will get tired and angry because it is kind of heavy.

SO if you plan to do it yourself i would buy a used tailshaft and cut it to make your dummy shaft. I have the number of a friendly used trans parts guy in SA if you want it.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

FYI the front section is really similar to a 413 so after you do your truck you shouldnt have any trouble doing a 413 if the urge ever strikes.
