I know it will bolt on will likly have to make a intake. Any how any one every try it?

You get some fun issues with dizzy drive, cam sprocket teeth profile, waterpump etc. IIRC.... it'd be something to sort out on the engine stand, not in the car.

timing belt issues iirc.
swapping in a g72 sohc 24valve has been done
better off to swap the whole motor and go with an MS than try and hybrid the motors.
In a nutshell the differences are:
1)timing belt - tooth spacing & pitch are different than the 12v, the 24v SOHC belt is wider, has an extra idler and better tensioner
2) crank - snout is completely different to accomodate the different timing cog. doubtful the 12v crank pulley would work
3) dizzy drive - you can't use the 12v cams and the 24v SOHC cams don't have provisions for the 12v dizzy. The heads also don't have provisions for the dizzy drive extension. the 24v dizzy is driven off the drivers side back head and is more or less non-adjustable and computer controlled
4) exhaust - you would have to make headers as the ports and bolt pattern are completely different than the 12v
so in a nutshell, yes, it will physically bolt on, but your better off nabbing the whole motor. Forged crank, hicher CR (9:1 in the lower end motors and 10:1 with variable intake on the GTS motors) a more refined timing belt system etc., plus you'll end up having to run MS anyway.
FWIW, the sohc 24v motor does have a fair bit of punch, i have a PR of 14.308@94mph in a pull interior P-body with a bone stock 24v SOHC and A543 manual running Megasquirt-II Extra. Still got near 30mpg highway and mid 20's around town.
Thats what I was think.. I have a bad 6g74 motor sitting around. I might slowly work on getting it set to go. And then just swap the whole thing in a few years or when ever I got it all set to go. If I do this I will take my time and do it right will be fun.... Thanks for all the info.
do all sohc 24valve motors have the forged crank?
I am faily sure they don't all, But I think ones after 95 all are. At lest I know this to be true on the 6g74 not sure on the 6g72 ones.
The 2000-2005 eclipse gt/gts and stratus r/t sohc 24v motors have forged cranks from the factory. Wide forge line and rings like a bell. Found that out when i rebuilt my bottom end. BUT the crank snout is different i believe. If i ever have a spare 24v crank ill compare the two
Every 6g73 2.5l 24v sohc I have taken apart has cast. Pointless upgrade for most people here.
