What' the trick 568 Trans top

Anybody know what the trick is to putting the top selector in a 568? I believe I have
the reverse lever lined up right but what happens with that little lever and the dowel
    on the shaft.

Gotta carefuly hold the fork actuator levers in line and also make sure the little hook thingy is retracted back when you put it on. Its that little lever hook thingy that get jammed in and wont allow yout o shift if its not landed in theer correctly. Dry fit it a few times w/o the anerobic on there until you get the hang of it. Also, make sure the rollers on the spring detents are in the correct direction or that will cause it to have to come back apart too. Good luck!

I use a pair of dowels to help line up the housing also. Helps so the detent springs arnt pushing it sideways while installing it.

Sounds like that would help, got pics?

Could use threaded stud on the two alignment corners too.

I probably have more room than you, learned this trick from Sox & Martin. The trans didn't drop down enough to use the studs but I managed to get it in, manually checked the positions, all good then hooked up the cables, no 5th and reverse. 2 hours later back in, manually go thru the gears without the cables, was working fine for a dozen or so gear changes and then it locked up, pulled the cover off again and started working the shafts manualy, nothing, pulled the rollers out, thinking they were missed aligned and still nothing, then it went in gear, I'm ready to give up on this trans and throw a good used one in just to get the car rolling. The trans I have is rebuilt hybrid with a posi and don't want to give it up.

They can be a !itch sometimes. I have them fall together perfectly and work great, other ones gotta be a PITA and not line up for you.

Just for clarity/curiosity asking... I hope that transmission pictured in post #1 is/was not sold to you as being a 568 because it sure doesnt look like one from the 2nd picture. 3rd gear on the input shaft is a dead giveaway for being an early 523.

Re: What' the trick 568 Trans top

I think I'm on to something, I jiggled the reverse lever and it went into reverse, then played with it until it locked up (took many times but it did) seems like the horizontal lever and the verticle lever are at the end of its life or there is too much play in the the vericle lever, see the gap in between the E-clip and the bar. Anything look odd to you guys?

Why is it always the 15 cent part that gives you the most aggravation, I owe you a beer brother, got any tricks to pop that washer and E-clip in without it ending up in china?

Re: What' the trick 568 Trans top

Lots of luck... Good pair of needlenose pliers to hold the E-clip and another pair to compress the washers. Maybe stuff a clean rag down inside the case so if the washers go flying down it might catch them before they get lost inside.
