what to use for air dam around radiator/intercooler

I need to cover up the areas between the sheet metal of the car and the intercooler to keep air going through the cores and not around. What are some of you using for this? I was thinking of something flexible maybe a thin rubber? Kind of like the factory stuff. any info or advice appreciated. Thanks.

I used sticky foam bought from Home Depot, I think they use it mostly for HVAC applications. It's black and flexible. It's not "show pretty" but I found it very effective. I'll try to find package but I believe it's made by Frost King and it's about 2 1/2" wide

Yeah, there's the stuff for sealing A/C units in windows etc, or sometimes there's supersize weatherstrip in the car accessory type places for sealing truck caps, camper shells etc. However depending on the store, that might have gone away for the winter, and you might have to wait a month or two before it appears again or they restock.

Did you stuff this in the gaps or does it overlap both the sheetmetal and the cooler?

If you have a Napa, or a truck stop near by, go and see if they have the poly mud flaps. It's thick, flexible, and easy to cut. Durable too.

Get a big enough one of them, and I guess you could cut it like a gasket, and fasten rad or IC down on top of it, damping vibration too.

That's what I was thinking about but it seems a little too thick and heavy...or are the poly flaps different?

I grab old election signs (the ones people have in their yards around election season) and use them. They work really well for this, they're light, easy to cut/form, and easily painted black.

Best of all, they're free! I go around the night of elections and people are happy to get rid of them.

Man that is a great idea. I'll check that out.

Here in SoCal and maybe all over the country there are illegal signs made out of that stuff that are nailed to telephone poles and stop sign posts and either the government or some volunteers have to go out and tear em down.

They're not renting the space on the pole from whoever owns it; deadbeat litterbugs.

Re: what to use for air dam around radiator/intercooler

I made one out of sheet aluminum from the hardware store. I painted it wrinkle black so it's less visible, and wrapped a piece of vacuum hose (slit lengthwise) around it to reduce vibration and chaffing. It has a couple legs riveted to it, and mounted to existing holes in the radiator support with some plastic christmas tree fasteners. This was more for the benefit of the radiator than the intercooler obviously, but it's an idea.

Craft stores (like Hobby Lobby) have foamboard that should work for something like that. It's light, stiff and can be cut into shape, and is slightly flexible. I plan on using some for ducting and underbody aero.

The poly mudflaps aren't as heavy as the rubber. They're thinner than the rubber too.

Where I put it, it overlapped. I don't have a picture right now and the car is 300 miles from me at the moment. But I might be able to find the material I used. It's pretty wide.
