What brand for front speakers-5 1/4 or slightly bigger?

I had some JL Audio TR525's in the dash but didn't like the sound, they were muffled, put my old JBL GTO's back in and much nicer sound, so is there another speaker that won't break the bank or are the JBL's pretty good?

I am also looking to put some speakers in the front door, probably fit a 6-7" round one there, so again, options?

Deck is an Alpine CDA123 with the inline amp, KTP445. Unsure of rear 6x9's, been awhile but they aren't crisp, dull, and a 10 inch sub.

pioneer premiere is a pretty good set of component speakers, id say they are mid range when it comes to price, but sound really nice.
it honestly all depends on how much money you plan to fork out on your purchase......

you could install 2 speakers in the front door that will be provide crisp clean highs, and destroy any bass thats coming from that 10" sub of yours......$$$$ is your limiting factor!

dB/$, I like JBL. Not always the purest sound, but good enough for going down the road with a loud exhaust.

I did find some Infinity component speakers but found they don't give out much bass, Kappa i's. I have around $100 or less to spend.

Maybe I Just need to put another amp in?

I did find the JBL's are crisper but seem to crap out earlier than the JL's.

I've used several different types of Infiniti speakers, from their basics to their components, and I've never really been all that impressed. The JBL 6X9 is hard to beat for the price. I've used upper product line JBLs, amp'ed 'em to the max, and cranked them out and loved them. I'm not so sure about their smaller speakers though.

I keep reading about more power aka amps, I guess I could go that route first if needed, the inline amp did make a big difference.

whats the RMS rating on the speakers??? in my stratus the alpine deck was able to hammer the pioneer speakers without a problem, it was crisp and clean, and able to shake the heck out of the rear view mirror. i didnt really miss having the subwoofers too tell ya the truth.....

Re: What brand for front speakers-5 1/4 or slightly bigger?

Its really pointless to dump money into speakers without any real power, I doubt that amp does that power really, and I cant beleive that they have gotten the quality of a class d up to a a/b yet, class d was made for huge sub amps, small size and high efficiency. The problem is they just really sounded like ---- on anything above 100hz, some guys wont even buy a class d sub amp. In short stop being a lazy --- and buy a real amp and wire it up, like a 100x4, headroom is always a good thing. Then look at new speakers. I know everyone here (and the entire dodge community) has a boner for infinity cause they used them stock but really they are one of my last choices. Look around audio forums, get away from coax and get a good componet set or put together your own componets.

cdt and focal make some great speakers, but I am not sure of your budget.....Also Rockford Fosgate has really stepped up their game as of late in the beginning they were great then went large market commercially turned to ---- and now back to being pretty damn good stuff

and i know on my car they make 5 1/4 components so if you have to go that route in the doors instead of 6.5s should be alright....but i would highly suggest you get a good set of components up front and as said get a good amp they are not that expensive these days then most people dont even run rear fills if you got a good enough set up front but if you want speakers in the rear go with some 6.5 midbass woofers

I noes the modern computer designed speakers are technically better, but I like going to thrift stores and finding the $2000 a pair new in the late 70s early 80s home hifi units, and pulling cones out of them.

I run 150w per door on 6.5s and tweeters, no rear, and was 2000w on a 12, now 600w on a pair of 12s and people tell me to turn it down, it gets plenty loud enough. Power is key, not having many pairs of speakers in your car, when you see guys with multiple speakers in their doors at shows its to soak up the 1000w they want to throw at midbass and tweeters. A high quality pair of componets on a good 200w for the pair will sound way better then 4 coaxial 100w any day.

That amp has been tested and delivers close to 40 watts per speaker so its not bad, its basically a 300w 4 channel amp.

I have plenty of volume, just looking for some crispness so to speak. I got Jugs Pioneers on a trade so I'll put those in my door and hatch and go from there. If I need more then I'll get a real amp but I really want to avoid that, no room for it,

Lose it in the side panel behind the driver's seat orrrr .... bolt it to the roof in line with the overhead console

I have my sub amp under the drivers seat, guess I could hide in behind the plastic side panels if needed.

So in your opinion, what would a good 5.25" component set be? I need some for the Lebaron, there is very little space behind the speaker though.

It always boils down to what you want to spend really, my 'componet sets' are usaully bastard sets I put together, you could dig around on parts express in the clearence section if you wanted (dayton would be my #1 choice if you are going to do that), I like to find a midwoofer that has a natural rolloff up high so I can just let it play full range just using a highpass filter from my amp and then piggyback a tweeter onto it with a passive highpass. I generally do not like a metal dome tweeter, silk only, metal tends to get kind of loud and bright at high volume but some people like it. But to throw out some suggestions

helix, cdt, mb quart, pioneer, alpine, bravox, powerbass has some lower line componets that are pretty inexpensive, some companies I was going to suggest only make a 6.5 componet set, audioque, incriminator audio, etc. I was going to suggest crescendo audio but they are sold out right now. I really tend not to buy any mainstream brands myself, someone who pretty much caters to the hobbyist. Sundown, sound solutions audio, crescendo, audioque, dc sound labs, there are some more, not all of them make componets though, reason why I usaully end up with some bastard speakers.

BTW Canadians, I remember seeing cones and some audio bits in the surplus section at Princess Auto, but can't remember how long ago it was or if they were there last time I was in there. They did seem to be getting GM surplus parts from some of the high end models, like the recently discontinued Pontiacs, so might have been stock or uptrim cones from recent GMs.

edit: searching "speaker" on princessauto.ca brings up a couple of options that might be worth checking out... presuming your local store has them.
