1986-1992 jetta gli had the option for recaro trophy seats as they call them. Black with the gray inserts. Then the 1988 I believe had the helio option which was the same recaro seat but in a blue strobe pattern. Something along the line of 1500 made in that.

Yeah not the coolest but the shell was nice for sleeping in the back and keeping the Utah snow off our stuff.
The truck was just restored 2 years ago by my brother who painted it in high school auto shop.

Here are some more pictures mostly interior. If anyone has good leads on a fabric that can be used to recover the bolster and come close to matching that would be great.

Awesome project Matt! I expect it to be running and driving for the spring BBQ this year!

As for the replacement fabric, I think the best option is what Gabe did with his CSX. He removed the fabric from the rear of the seat and used it to repair the bolster. Then he had the fabric matched at an upholstery shop the best that they could and they used it on the back of the seat. How often do you ever look at the back of a seat anyways?!

Depends on how early the bbq is. It should be running very soon, but making it look good may take longer :-)

Good idea on the seat, but as i have looked at it the fabric is so faded i think it will need something more. I may have a source on something but i don't know the cost so who knows

No one said it had to be pretty. How many miles are on it and what needs to be done to it?

The Car has about 185,000 miles, it has all the Shelby stuff. It needs the Turbo replaced supposedly, but we got a BRAND new Chrysler VNT off of ebay for $450! I hope to put a coil in it (coil was missing) and see if i can get it to fire. I assume though that it will need a new fuel pump also as it has been sitting in the California sun for nearly 9 years. Other than that what it needs is cosmetic, seats, window scrapers, paint, eventually a dash as it has shrunk, etc.

At least that is as far as I know.

Sounds like a pretty cool project. Good luck with the window scrapers, I looked at all the 2 door p-bodies in the wrecking yards for a couple months when I had my 89 and they were all toast. Of course I lucked out and found some for my GLH. So ya never know.

Doesn't that part make you the most angry? LOL... is it right in the middle above the radio/HVAC controls?
