Is that the bit you use on aluminum? What do you use to finish it with?
yes thats an aluminum bit. anything with a "single cut" is best for softer materials, and will help prevent the tool from getting clogged up. if you have a steady enough hand along with some wax, the carbide pictured is more then sufficient to get everything nice and smoooth
nice work steve, cant wait to see what your going to do with the exhaust side of things!
I sometimes go back over with a fine carbide to reduce sanding time and materials. I use a variety of 60 & 80 grit cartridge rolls, then 80 grit paper on a mandrel.

Thanks Juggy. WR-40 works very well to cool the bits, keep bits clean, comes off work piece rather easily compared to wax, and is cheap by the gallon.
The exhaust side is complete and I will be putting the stock turbofold back on for now. I do not want to deal with any other issues pertaining to clutch, trans, or much in the way of additional expense. I need to focus on Sledgehammer.

Nice work Steve. I'm curious why not bigger valves, not necessary for what you are trying to achieve? are you going to do some sort of before and after street and track comparison test?
Did your SRT have any performance mods before or after? no doubt the higher the HP the more your head will come into play.

The stock valve diameters are fine for this size bore. A larger valve should have new seats in my opinion. My SRT4 is comprised of only bolts on improvements. The turbo is a FME1 along with intercooler, injectors, fuel pump, & exhaust. I refined the car along with my buddy Bob Brady. That is all that has been done. I ran the car only after it was over 225,000 miles. Mainly I am looking to find out what the head will deliver in terms of flow with good airspeed compared to what I had before. Coupled with the intake on the flowbench will tell me a lot. Theoretically it should perform very well.

are the runners in the head now bigger than the ones in the intake or is it just an optical illusion in the pic of the intake above?

Steve, im not sure what kind of abuse you have put to the SRT already? but I have a friend who just burnt out his stock clutch in just over 1 racing season. it was running mid 12s @116 on E85 with only exhaust, intercooler and CAI mods done to the vehicle. this season (well last.....) he went to a bigger turbo and propelled the car 120mph in the 1/4 on 20psi with new found slipping clutch.......
maybe something i would consider changing out now b4 you fry the clutch with that new found power!!! lol
The ports match up identically. The visual difference is probably due to the injectors boss in the manifold. I will bolt them together and try to get a shot of the flow path .
Update: Brian and I got together and flowed the head. The intake could not be bolted on and flowed due to interference. The results of the head were very good, however! First off, the turbulence and diminished flow I induced with my last "improvement" were gone. The port flow was very smooth. The head flowed 262cfm @ .350" valve lift. The port stalled after that. No concern for me as I am running stock cams. The interesting fact I need to find is volume. I know the port is slightly larger than stock, but not all that much. I searched for the initial figures for the head but could not find them. Brian and I both recalled the peak flow on his bench was 208. Now it sounds low for these heads, but we had repeated it and we have that as a starting point. The initial figures would have been great for comparison throughout the valve lift range. Here is what we got:
.050" - 54.82
.100" - 91.80
.150" - 130.68
.200" - 171.48
.250" - 206.55
.300" - 238.42
.350" - 262.65
.400" - 267.85
I know there are people out there reporting numbers in the 300 range, but they are all at .500" valve lift. I KNOW none of those ports are this small, and slightly longer given the additional divider I added. The next step is to get the volume to compare to stock and put it on a fresh shortblock and run it!

Juggy,
I haven't run the car at the track save for the one SDAC event. I enjoy it out on the backroads and highways more than anything else. This head and intake will serve as a test for me. The results will tell the tale! I have upgraded a few components already. Clutch was one of them as the replacement stocker fried after a few thousand miles after those upgrades and tuning.

I cc'd a stock SRT4 intake port and they are 116cc. I did not bother with the exhaust side. The finished ported unit is 123cc if you hadn't noted earlier post.

I have finished the intake manifold. The floor was filled with epoxy and finished .0810" taller than stock. Powder coat color looks cool in my opinion.
