This port started out at 208cfm @ .350" valve lift. stock as flowed on Brian's bench. Porting brought it to 262cfm. I then opened the port up too far and flow suffered. What you see now is the floor filled and a straighter shot to the valve. I haven't flowed it yet, but hope to do so soon. The left hand picture is the start of the project. All four ports are now complete. The valve job is completed and I put a second angle on the intake valves. The seat is a combination of multi-angles and a radius. Same cutter I have been using on the 8v heads. I decided to also put a second angle on the exhaust valve of 32 degrees.

I am anxious to see also. I also want to port match the SRT intake manifold to match and flow the two together.

I took the factory gasket up against the bolts and scribed the inside of the gasket. The new height from roof to floor is close to stock.

Thanks Simon. The weights of the Manley titanium retainers compared to stock was significant given their small size. The factory retainer weighed 123 grams while the titaniums came in at 51 grams!

Yes it is, my SRT4 is getting tired and a fresh short block is getting prepared. Hopefully it'll work well!

I wish that were the case, but the cloud of oil smoke starting it up in the morning says otherwise. The car may just need valve seals, but in no way am I going to go through all that. I'm sure the rings are gone also. It served me well and will do so for a while longer.

How come you only put a 32* cut on the exhaust valve as oppose to back cutting the whole valve? Did you do anything on the intake valves?

So there's no wear or stress issues with titanium retainers on a daily? But you wouldn't use titanium springs though, right?

Why not? The main reason Ti hardware is not used more in production engines is co$t

    Re: Ported SRT4 Cylinder Head

    A.J.,

I do not backcut valves. These exhaust valves are a small diameter and a low angle back. I put the 32 degree on the valve to aid airflow around the valve. I split the difference between sealing angle and back of the valve.
I also did the same to the intake.

Say for example these valves had a 50 to 60 degree back, such as a tulip style for example, then the potential advantage of the second angle to aid flow around the valve may not be there.
