i run a stock PS rack without PS and its fine. im sure youl be fine also.

If you search the junk yards, you can find a manual rack in a neon as some of them came from the factory with one.

Re: Project Phoebe Build Thread - 12v T3.0L/A670

Well I've got the piston lip seals (I tore these up last time by not using lube and/or correct install methods), sealing rings, and orings done, all steels and clutches replaced, waiting on a tool and the springs/rollers to replace the over-running clutch sprags as the old springs were broken/missing. Going to be reusing the kickdown and low/reverse bands as they are in spec and look fine. Replaced the low/reverse band strut with a beefier aftermarket one so no more pretzels for me. Debating whether to replace the thrust washers as a few "look worn" but are within thickness specs.

Got the case and covers cleaned up good, going to work on getting my Peloquin LSD ready next. It needs bearings pressed on, and the races in the extension housing and bearing support plate replaced. Then to set up the preload via shims.

Re: Project Phoebe Build Thread - 12v T3.0L/A670

Got the Peloquin set up tonight. Ring gear is attached and torqued...had to heat it up a little because it didn't want to fit then quick grab my impact and hit the bolts. Both bearings pressed on easy via my 20ton press.

Something isn't right though..when i put it in the case something doesn't line up right. I think i pressed the big ring gear side bearing on too far. Gonna have to find my puller and test that theory.

Just waiting on a couple parts and special tools and this thing should go back together soon.

Re: Project Phoebe Build Thread - 12v T3.0L/A670

Not quite seeing what you've mixed and matched, but you do know that the bearing cups in the ext housing and whatever it's called on the drivers side needed to be shimmed to fit when diff is changed or bearings replaced etc right?

Mostly you'd notice slop or tightness though, unless you had a diff from a vehicle that was core shifted to one extreme and put it in one that was core shifted to the other, and they had like 200 thou of shim on opposite sides.

Orrr. haven't you got to that bit yet?

Personally i'd just cut my own shims from dimensionally even sheet material rather than faff around trying to find certain sizes remaining in stock at scattered dealers... but that seems to worry people... maybe because I say I'd just stack as many rings of coke can as I'd need....

Thanks for the pics and finally telling us what your using, \

Someone on Neons.org put a 3.3 in one, and I think someone did a 3.0L already so that's cool, another one.

Do yourself a favour and get some old CV shafts, remove the shafts and put the ends in the bearings and tighten up, even not moving it, the bearings are being side loaded and you will ruin them just having it sit like you are now.

Yes I understand how this trans works/goes together.

As far as the diff goes, it has about 1/2" play when installed, that's where i got the bearing being pressed too far on idea from.

The bearings in it right now are toast (literally, pass side fell apart while i was towing it ) so I don't care about them. Once the new ones go in it will definitely get axles.

You did, I just haven't actually put them on yet because I realized it would be sitting for awhile + the reason you pointed out earlier.

Well trans is complete minus differential, hopefully I did everything right and it works when I get it in the car. Finally got the tools I needed to pull and replace the bearings. Now just need to find time to put the diff together, and install the valve body and pan. I'm reading about blocking the accumulator and think I'm gonna try that too. Should make it shift harder (I want BANG) and not eat clutches so fast (from sliiiiiding into the next gear). Also governor is disabled via the RMVB.

My spirit sold today, 1/12/13, so may have a little extra money to play with soon as tax refund is coming also. Real life is hitting home here though, student loans and credit cards from bygone college days are eating me alive. Trying everything I can do to get them paid down but not getting anywhere fast. Which unfortunately means no toys. At least not expensive ones. Like my car.

Trust me, I know what its like... Try and hit the highest interest stuff first and you should be able to snowball your payments to actually start making a dent in them.

I haven't touched "lucy" in months for mostly the same reasons, and it really sucks

I was finally able to convince Chase to give me a Slate card with 0% on transfers/purchases for 15 months as I made $40k+ last year. So my worst account that was costing me $150/month in interest is finally gone after 5+ years. Thank God. I can't believe its legal to charge 29.99% interest AND a $55 annual fee when I have NEVER done anything wrong. First Financial Bank out of North Sioux City, South Dakota. They purposely target high-school age kids and give them high credit limits with initial low interest. All 3 of my younger siblings have got offers from them also. Beware.

Its okay be be patient with your projects but it seems to hurt every time you see anything remotely resembling automotive enjoyment by other parties. I hate that. I thought hiding on facebook was safe but somehow a bunch of car people ended up on facebook.

Its scary how they can write their own rules and change them at will but then if we didn't sign up for credit cards in the first place we'd never have to worry about it.

Its a modified 2007 Tomos ST. Just a moped that I built as my college transport..and got a little wild. Has 85cc cylinder kit, bigger carb, tuned custom exhaust, plus I have a bunch of different sprockets to change gearing around. Definitely need a helmet for this one. Not very nice to ride when its cold though...I guess it would work as a last resort.

As far as the truck goes, I'm only about 1/2 mile from where I work, so gas lasts a while unless I take it out mudding or something

---------- Post added at 06:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:28 PM ----------

I bought it as my tow rig for past and future race cars originally, just ended up driving it as its a fun little truck.

Im always looking out for a ~94-97 b2300 single cab 2wd 2.3/auto (which is rare because noone else in the world wanted them then or now so they barely exist) but i never have any luck.
