    52mm ?

I have an 89 T2 with a stock TB and I was thinking about going to the 52mm I know there are people with this so my question is,

How much of a difference did it really make and was the extra effort worth it?

I have found a couple 1 peice intakes im going to snag so I can pratice porting with.

Really isn't worth it until you're pushing over about 300hp or so. You really wont be moving enough air to justify it until you reach that point.

The real question is how much of an increase in overall area is there?

As bn880 stated the difference does not seem like much when you compare the dia., but when you look at the increase in the area, it gives you a much better idea of the increased flow of the TB.

I would say that if your goal is 275HP+, I would go for the larger TB. I believe that simon piked up about 5HP by going with one a little while back. Not a huge gain, but every little bit helps.

I would immagine that one would experience a much better gain with a two piece than if there was a one piece on there due to manifold design. I know of a couple of people that are making new plenums for the top half of their two piece and running big TBs. They also have a lot of head work, and what not to take advantatge of it though.

Thanks man for shinning some light here for me. I think I might just go get a TB off a 3.3 and another intake darn 1pc just to play with since I have a credit of 50 bux from a pick-n-pull.

My ultimate goal is 300hp so im going to get some head work as well (lots of it) and a cal

    Re: 52mm ?

If your doing head work, I would run the larger unit. Yes, picked up 5whp at the top end on a dyno, back to back. Stock TIII turbo on my mild port swirl head, stock one piece intake with the hole opened up.

This is a good way to find out if your TB is a restriction. Put a vacuum/boost guage in the IC piping infront of the TB, go for WOT run and compare to your boost guage in the car. I belive it should be the same. Search TD.com using me or Frank in the induction section for more info, theres a massive thread on it.

    Re: 52mm ?

I plan to go to the track Aug 4, I'll run with a 46mm, if I have time, I'll switch to a 52 without other changes and see if there is a difference. I have a 2.2, ported G head, exh. manifold, intake with a 3.3 elbow, 2.5" s.v. with 3" dp, huge intercooler and stock turbo. Plan for 17 psi.

That too would be great as I have a stock 782 head, ported exhaust mani, stock intake 2.5 SV and 3" exhaust all the way, Stock IC
