    Re: chips?

those chips I said I had... they worked fine when programmed with an offset at c000. I think they are UV erase... they have the window and I have access to an eraser. no big deal. I ordered some of the flash ones too that warren said about.

oh and the error was cause my data read was corruped cause I had the parallel port settings wrong. no biggie.

    thanks

Everyone I talked to was talking about LM's, and I don't know if Jeff or Rob from Dcal/Chem are idiots. What was pointed out to m about the 28C256 is that they enter Write Enable mode and gt corrupted on power up. So the way to make the 28C256 directly compatible would be to write to 4000h and write protect it. (apparently) But finding a way to write the data protection sequence to the EEPROMS is not that easy with a Willem board/soft.

It was probably a clerical error of some sort. Rob is one smart cookie!

    Re: chips?

Yeah, all of those guys are smart cookies. But anyway:

Problem SOLVED. With a tip from Chad on D-Cal about the chips entering write mode inadvertently, I ended up changing some ancient willem software to enable the Software Data Protection (write protect) on the 28C256 EEPROMS, the 87 TII LM now reads them without any issues, both cals on the single chips also.

Took me for _ever_ to get the code to turn on SDP properly, the CAT28C256 are real nasty buggers requiring some fast writing.

Cheers and thanks, I'm on my way to blow the engine now.

Anyone tried using a M87C4001 for a SBEC, if so, what is the offset.

Doesn't that have way too many pins? It's a 4meg chip, right?

All of my research indicates that our cars won't be effected by an EMP. If they are, you don't need to worry about it anyway.

I just did a comparison and you're right. I googled them and read they are a 512k chip. Well, I have enough of the chips that work and a UV eraser.
