I've learned from personal experience; 3:50 hybrid is a Great tranny for the street, not sure about auto-cross, but I would imagine in Any application where your either badly out powering your tires Or your running out of gear.
For Drag applications using slicks, proper clutch and set-up so that your hooking well, Any reduction of gearing from the 3:85 set-up will Slow you down! ie. IF I put a 3:50 geared hybrid in the Charger I would go Slower, If a 3:05 hybrid, Slower yet!
The Only advantage of a hybrid in an application like mine is IF your running out of fourth gear Before the end of the track (low reving set-up trying to trap high MPH) you would obviously gain by dropping your gearing to get your powerband back in line for the end of the 1/4 mile. Or a bandaid for a set-up that's not hooking well enough.
So again, Great street trans, I really miss the 5th gear on the hwy that my hybrid had! I was going to do a final BtB just because. (I ran the 3:50 gear hybrid BtB years ago when I didn't have the Charger set up well and it was still a toss up between which one was better) After experiencing what the Charger did last fall on the stock 568 I don't need to waiste my time doing any BtB, the outcome is obvious enough.
