I had my 94 Duster 3.0 car with automatic gutted down to 2250 lbs without any lexan. It had a single stock seat. The rear bumper had been removed and I used nylon zip ties to hold the bumper cover in place and appear stock.

Wow thats really light for a v6 car, maybe they are not much heavier than the 2.2/2.5's

2675 is how much our shadow weighed at drag week. V6 motor. Had all interior in it as well. spare tire and jack removed, spare tire well removed. other than that it had stock wheels, 3inch exhaust. was a 5spd car as well, if it matters.

that should give you a good base line

Re: How light can I get an 89 shadow 2.5 turbo 5 speed car? (New project log)

I dont think there is any rust on the car, except the spare tire well, it is getting cut out anyway. I want to get it as light as possible, ac/heater box are going away too, I am not above removing any creature comforts. it has the stock 2.5/520. I am gonna remove balance shafts, rebuilt swirl head, new 50 trim turbonetics, huge srt4 fmi , new +40's, fwd stage 5 or daul twister cal, 3" downpipe and exhaust, thinking I will remove the stock fuel tank and use a small cell and inline 255. what all can i remove from this thing to get it like and run hard?

Nice car! If it was an 87 I'd be offering cash money for it... heck, anyone with a rusty 89 CSX should be!

For the project, be sure to keep track of (or post?) each item removed and what it weighs

I started doing that today and lost interest, the interior is getting gutted pretty good, got to do the front doors yet, I have alot of little things to cut out, waiting for my turn with a buddies plasma cutter. The inside and floors need washed really good, but is rust free(except spare tire well). I cant believe how much higher this car is starting to sit! I have another grill for the car, wanted to see how the old broken one would look cut out like a CSX, but with the flush headlights, mocked up an intercooler for it too.

I got to find some plain crank window door panels, and a good dash pad for it, I want the car gutted, but clean. I have a radio delete plate for it, and an antenna delete plug, the ac/heater box is coming out too.

Those hatches are heavy as hell, piece of lexan there and a lot of cutting/drilling could save a bunch. Also, dump the exhaust out the side as close as you can to the front. Full exhaust adds a good bit of weight.

this last fall I brought my 89 yellow ES out to the track for it's maiden voyage since making it a stick car. 2.5 dead stock longblock. Cummins front mount, S-60 turbo, 3" exhaust, stock TII ECU, stock airbox, 17-18 PSI = 13.20 @ 104+. All elimination runs were on the brakes. 12's were a couple PSI of boost away or keeping my foot in the throttle thru the lights.

Well the spare tire, jack, floor mats were removed (lol). No idea, haven't had it on any scales yet. Added cruise control and power mirrors. Has sunroof. Does not have power windows. Took about 7lbs. X4 off stock pumper/tire weights by going with 16X7 OZ wheels. Here's a pic.

WOW! i love that pale yellow, I am hoping to get mine l body light, i have the heater/ac box to remove yet and then start in with the plasma cutter. I got the stock top end off today and I am getting my head/ 50 trim put together, gonna run a tbi cam. I have a new 3" downpipe and gonna run it side exit with a walker bullet muffler. I have to remove the rear bumper and cut out spare tire well also, I am gonna run a small cell and inline 255 pump, that should save some weight also. I am gonna ditch the power steering also, probably just loop the lines for now, did the same on a glht and drove it for years like that. I have a hood vent/frame off an omni that i think I will graft into the hood kinda like a charger.
