    I need a new clutch (i think), advise/help please!!

So when I finally got the car back together I took it out driving. Anytime I got into the car, it would pull up to about 3500 rpms and then it would shoot up to 6k rpms and the car would keep going. I've had problems with breaking the tires loose (19" rims) a lot, so i presumed that was the cause. But then it happened when i was doing about 65 in 5th gear. No matter how built my car is, its not breaking them loose at that point.

Logic would dictate the clutch needs replacement (not many miles on it, so i'm a bit confused) but i figure that's where i'll start.

Basically I don't hit the track much, so while i'm looking for a clutch that could handle it, i'm not really looking for a race clutch that's hard to drive on the street. The majority of my seat time is cruising around town (or at least it was 2 years ago when i last drove the car with regularity).

A number of people recommended the purple clutch when i talked to them...is this what they were referring to?

Sounds like the clutch is slipping, but best bet is to call TU and ask him, the purple plate is a very high rated clutch, probably overkill for a street car.

No such thing as a overkill clutch set. But the strongest you can afford.

I have 4 punk disc, no problem driving on the street whatsoever.

I have the purple plate 6 puck in my daytona and love it so far. It is not grabby at all and is easy to drive on the street. I haven't run it on slicks yet so I can't say how much power it can hold but if the specs are within your power range I wouldn't think twice about getting it. Holds enough to spin the tires at 80 in 3rd on 20psi.

Tell that to your throw out bearing and thrust bearing.

+1 for the TU units. I've been very happy with mine.

I have run two tu clutches and love them both. Blue 4 puck wenth 10.98 in a shadow and a bunch of street miles befor slipping and now have a purple 4 puck that has gone 10.57 at 135 without slipping. Either set up is more than street friendly.

Hey Everyone. Looking at ordering the new clutch, talked to Chris, he was super helpful. One thing i noticed ordering online, the 568 has two different versions a 90 and before and a 91 and on....is there any way i can check something to tell me which mine is? (Car is an '89 but the engine/tranny came from another car...i don't know what...possibly my original car on the tranny). I reached out to the builder...but was wondering if I could just check myself...

The only real way to check is to see what size the spline is to verify. The build tag would be a very good indicator in most cases though. No pun intended.
