    High mileage Whittier built cars...

Just before storing my 87 CSX for the winter I turned 190k on the clock.
My car has the original unrebuilt trans and turbo, and I believe the lower end is all original too.
Didn't know if this was an anomoly seeing that most people boast about how low the mileage is on their cars. (My wife has 74k on her 89 Shelby Daytona)

Anyone else have high mileage Shelby cars still seeing street time???

My GLHS had 174,000 miles on it when I got it. When I parked it last I think it was over 175,000. It will be running in the spring.

I ran into the owner of my old 87 GLHS #547 couple of months ago, He told me he just rolled the odometer. When I sold it to him 10 years ago I had just rolled the odometer, so the car has just a tick over 200k miles on it. Only motor work that was ever done on that car was a Head gasket. Not Bad.

Nice! Thes ecars were made to be driven!

Probably my favorite car ever, 87 CSX # 252 is in storage with 178k... swapped a j-yard bottom end in it at 116k when the numbers block had a slight knock form... then latyer swapped the trans case after a shift rail guild bolt came out and windowed it

Wow, sounds like there is more out there besides mine, I'm just suprised that most of the original equpiment is still there, seeing as how I hear the 520 is a suspect trans...

JT, is that csx in the TurboDave storage stables?

These cars are quite capable of high mileage if driven right and the rust doesnt get them first.

Yep, it's in the boost barn...

The original A520 in my "clone" had well over 100, 5000+ RPM launches on slicks before the teeth literally fell off of 2nd gear!

The 520s will live a very long and healthy life at reasonable power levels. A lightly modified Shelby car would allow the trans to see a death from old age if not totally abused.

Well I don't know if mine was treated to that kind of abuse but there was some Yokohama Solo decals on his fridge when I bought the car and I know we wasn't doing that with his Prius...

That's OK, this gives us time to stock pile parts.

My daily driver '86 Turbo Z has 165,000 on the odometer. Odometer stopped working five months ago...probably over 170 now.

A referance to GLHS #420? That car had a TON of miles on it. Have to see if Ray chimes in, he remembers roughly how many.

Alledgedly 130,000ish when I bought it from the original owner in rough condition; the odometer put on about 10k during my 15 minute test drive so I took that with a grain of salt. The odometer was repaired before I took possession. I put a solid 80k+ on it in 4 years.

It's which ever GLHS Dave has that is hit in the side.
We have dibs on it, but for now, we have plenty of projects.

That would be my old car. I wish you the best of luck with it!

Re: High mileage Whittier built cars...

Not as many miles but my 88 csx-t has just past 152k on the clock. It's my DD, and as far as carfax and the previous owner have informed me I am the 4th possibly 3rd owner since it was auctioned to the public.
Stock motor/trans/turbo. It runs really good and I don't run it hard. I think they are pretty reliable so long
as they are taken care of.
